I’d use an iron frying pan, Flo.

A man camping out here beat off a rabid cougar with a cast iron frying pan. It had attacked his dog, and he wasn’t going to stand for that.

The original Andy Capp was a social observation of a stereotypical average, working class, basically educated married couple in the North of England. Now, whilst people are better educated (in general) and not so badly off there are still people like this around.

People still smoke, drink to excess and occasionally beat each other up (yes, women beat men up too). This is the humour in the strips. We can laugh at ourselves can’t we?

Americans laugh at hillbillies, red necks, and many more stereotypes.____________________________________________

“That anyone would find addiction and violence preferable to normality I find an uncomfortable commentary on your society (certainly not mine).”

    Who gets to define “normalcy”?

It’s just a comic strip, dude! Chill out and learn to laugh a little without trying to make everything a social issue.

Back in late April, NO6 noted his fish had fin rot. Do you suppose he caught it, and has been hospitalized? Where is he? And NO3—also missing. Worry, worry, worry.

Although I certainly don’t condone domestic violence, I have to admit the old fight scenes – cloud of dust with a few fists and feet sticking out – pretty hilarious. Especially when Flo stops the fight and says, “Listen, Pet – the neighbours are fighting”.

Actually, a bit of physical slapstick humor, well applied as in this case, is refreshing. So much of what passes for humor these days consists of psychosocial putdowns, snarky comments, rude and/or crude comments, and emotional cruelty. Funny died out with Laurel & Hardy, The Three Stooges for slapstick and the Marx Brothers, Red Skelton et al. for clever wordplay. The psychodynamics of Flo & Andy are more reflective of the Honeymooners or the Bickersons where there is affection between the two partners-remove the dynamic and the strip is not funny. Classic Andy is different than modern Andy but both are funny, just in slightly different ways. Humor is only politically incorrect when it doesn’t fit our way of thinking. Save the moralizing for the pulpit and let us enjoy the funnies-if you don’t like a strip, don’t read it.

afficionado, I assume your avatar is your Bella? I have a Bella too, only she is a long hair black with a bit of white. She is a rescue. Her and her bro were dumped by a store in January, in PA, USA, her bro didn’t make it, but she did. We got her through ROFF, Rescue Our Furry Friends. They figure when they were dumped, they were only a couple of days old. She is fine here with us, and living the GOOD LIFE! LOL! As are a couple of other rescues of ours! HOPE YOU SEE THIS!BTW, YOUR BELLA IS VERY CUTE!

no, a normal society hates it in real life but doesn’tmind it in entertainment. Look at the crime ratesfrom when cartoon violence was common comparedto now. case closed!
