Petey: EW. Mom's wearing her germ shirt. Mom: Excuse me, Mister Petey Otterloop! These are not germs. This is paisley, an ancient pattern with a vegetable motif! Petey: Looks like a bunch of spirochetes to me. Mom: Ssh, don't tell him, but I always thought it looks germs too. Alice: Looks like little pork chops with fringe to me.

; ) I had a purple suede vest about that same time, complete with long fringe and beads. Would’ve looked good with a shirt like yours. It was … far out…

Well, when you really start observing, it’s clear that all patterns and ornamentation are inspired by nature.

from the mighty wikipedia:Paisley or Paisley pattern is a droplet-shaped vegetable motif of Persian and Indian origin. The pattern is sometimes called “Persian pickles” by American traditionalists, especially quiltmakers,1 or “Welsh pears” in Welsh textiles as far back as 1888
Some design scholars also call the distinctive shape Boteh and believe it is the convergence of a stylized floral spray and a cypress tree: a Zoroastrian symbol of life and eternity.6 A floral motif called Buteh,7 which originated in the Sassanid Dynasty (200–650 AD)\
i’ve also heard it was pine tree seeds, but i like the name Persian Pickles

I like paisley shirts or ties (though at the moment I don’t have any, since paisley is at this moment not in style and hence not much available). I like pork chops (especially prepared Greek-style). I have nothing against spirochetes. So, I win today! Thanks, Alice!

I was in school in 40s and 50s and had to buy most in 2nd hand shops so I can not be critisised for my school age fashions (not my choice) I chose the best I could find in good condition in my size.
