Arlo and Janis by Jimmy Johnson for June 02, 2012
Transcript:
Gene: Down at the river, I didn't think I could ever leave you or this place again! Mary Lou: Now you think you can? Gene: Well, I didn't...I mean... Mary Lou: I'm teasing! Believe me, I so understand! Mary Lou: Gene, I want "us" so badly. I can forget we're "us" already! Is that crazy? Gene: Yes!

Someone’s gonna end up with a baby brother or sister here in about 9 months…

Gene’s smile in p.3 reminds me of his dad. Maybe a session between Arlo and Janis like this is what led to Gene’s birth 9 months later.

No Paris hotel. No expensive foam mattress and 600-count sheets. No cruse ship window suite. Will ever be better remembered than candle light in place of power, fireplace, and yard furniture drug into a bare house all those years ago.

Glad to see they’re on the same page once again. On what they are thinking, not the way this scene is.

my guess is they got to their current location by walking. doubt they teleported.if you are on your own property or in your own house and no ones around you can be nekkid all day. they are on a Futon not lawn furniture. JJ is treating the characters the way you would expect 20 somethings to act unless they are very religious and even those folks are known to have succumb to passion. i like the Gene and Mary Lou arc cause it moves the strip along as opposed to being stuck in some time capsule of the 80’s or whatever. it’s kindda like watching a sitcom .

Props to Jimmy Johnson for creating a strip that is like early Gasoline Alley. Arlo, Janis, Gene, the other characters, even the cat, are the closest true to life characters in comics today. They just find a little more humor in daily living than most of us believe is there….and pathos. To go from Gene showing up at home to here is a wonderful arc. I write fiction and I love writing this stuff (probably because I love cats, I have kids…and I’ve been in front of a candled fireplace with a loved one.)

I doubt they would if they’re on their own property way back in the woods. Whoever got near could be arrested for trespassing.

I had a girlfriend who was into wrestling. No, really: wrestling. At that time, though, she could only wrestle one other girl in her PE class; girls weren’t allowed on wrestling teams in those days. Of course, I had to ask: Which do you prefer, getting pinned or getting nailed?
