Well I used to loan out lunch money to atheletes at school (jr HS & HS) for a nickel a day on the dollar and get signed dated IOU’s with it all payable by end of school year. This was back when lunch was $0.35. Had several long term repeat customers too.
@Dogsniff: I’m still working on your comment from the beginning of yesterday, and I have it almost figured out. It’s just taking me awhile. Very clever.
Credit has made the world go round. Venture capital, even in the form of a basic car loan, has helped many people. In areas that have little or no public transportation, you must have a car to get a job. Or else you can work at the closest fast food joint and never be able to save up enough for a car.
Many pawn loans are for daily cash because there was an emergency. Pay it quickly and try not to get in that situation again.
As I recall, some laws forbid any interest at all! In this case, the lender would lose merely due to inflation, not to mention risk of losing the principal.
I started out years ago in the lower level of the 99 percenters. After working hard and saving a little here and there, I’m now at the upper end of that percentage. I do not begrudge any one in the 1% class, as I never worked for a poor person in all those years.
Maybe not, Calvin . . . but the really smart ones (like your b.f.f. Hobbes here) will most certainly know when they’re being charged an outrageously exorbitant usury fee by one of the world’s youngest con artists when they see it!
Calvin’s interest rate is cheap compared to Western Sky Financial (a Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe loan company. They charge 139%..They also make you agree to be bound by tribal law and waive any of your Federal or State rights which might apply.
Heh! I knew a guy like that in H.S. I did something like it during my senior H.S. year too. Only mine was a bit more illegal…… For the cost of the item(I stuck to beer), I’d buy a case of beer for someone – but ONLY if they gave me at least $30 in advance. I’d only do this once a month per person, and only on Fridays. I’d give ’em their receipt & change minus my “fee”.
Where I lived most kids just stole beer or liquor from their parents stocks so I usually only had 2 or maybe 3 a month.
