Better safe than sorry. I can’t figure out how these kids at the Mall can even walk, let alone run, with they way they wear their pants so low. Must be multi-tasking: texting and running away from the mall security guards while trying to keep your pants up.
My Dad, now aged 77, has been doing this for years. Seems as the day wears on and as he is moving about, the need for support in keeping his pants in place changes and so support from two or more points of leverage works out best.

A man who wears both a belt and suspenders can’t trust his own pants! — Reminds me of that old western with Henry Fonda.

A true safety man. Justin Wilson wore a belt and suspenders for the same reason.

They don’t make pants that fit old guys: big waist, no butt and skinny legs. Hard to put a belt on a pear unless the belt is way up high!

They suit you, Earl!
But you WERE fine the way you were.
