Soon, we’ll be missing Petey’s complaining. (Yes, I saw someone’s comment yesterday that the “Cul de Sac” strip is coming to close due to the author diagnosed with Parkinson’s.)
Thanks so much for the reminders of how things look from the little people’s view, for making us laugh and God Bless, we all pray they find a cure soon. You will be so missed
I just read the Washington Post article and I’m pretty much heart broken. This truly is the best comic strip ever and it won’t be forgotten. All the best to Richard Thompson who has truly brought this characters to life. I hope that with this decision he can now focus on his therapy and on getting better. Thank you Mr. Thompson for all the joy!
Gratefulness and sadness – that’s what I feel – what so many of us feel. Thank you, Richard, for a wonderful ride with a wonderful family. Your wit will be missed here. Good luck – and go with our prayers and/or best wishes for positive results and better health in the coming years.
I hope that all the Cul de Sac strips will be assembled into many book collections. I want to be able to keep re-reading them. I have the Calvin and Hobbes books, and it is good to go back, especially on a rainy day, and just have some laughs.
Richard, you will always be in our thoughts and prayers as you struggle with this disease. God bless you.
Noooooooooooo! I’m so terribly saddened to hear this news about you, Mr. Thompson. Please look into recent developments in medical devices that can stop tremors or ease tremors caused by Parkinsons and other conditions. And thank you for sharing your gifts with us.
I sure will miss your strip, it was something that I looked forward to daily. Good luck with your battle with Parkinsons. I’ll be praying and sending healing thoughts your way.
well, tragic this is. Cul de Sac was an understanding strip of families. But now it’s over… how sad. What’s even worse is that I predicted this, because of all the reruns. I understand your reasons for quitting, RIchard. Now have a fun retirement……………………………..
Thank you Richard Thompson. Cul de Sac has been a joy. The characters have been like family. Best of luck with your retirement and with your health. I’m with Pacopuddy who said you ‘must be a wonderful person’.
I am very sad that one of my favorite strips is ending, but I hope it can go into reruns starting with the first. I started reading it somewhere in the middle and wouldn’t mind seeing all of it. Also books of the entire strip would be nice.
We love this strip…you will be sorely missed! Such a great representation of family life in the suburbs. We wish you all the best, and pray for a cure.
I didnt realise the issue until I saw the comments here. I only discovered the strip in the last 6 months or so – it is great. I can see so many real life kids in it.Parkinsons is a bummer and obviously indiscriminate. The best of luck with you treatment mate.
I wonder if there’s a way to put your ideas in a non-drawing form? You have such a wonderful imagination, and as a writer and writing teacher, I think you could maybe branch out into novels or something like that? YOu are truly the heir to Peanuts. And Calvin and Hobbs.
Dear Richard, I am truly sorry you’re having to go through such a difficult journey and I seriously pray a cure for the disease is found soon—or at least relief. Thank you for sharing this world and characters. I love this strip because it is gentle while being humorous and loveable, as well as quite realistic. May you be blessed!

I just learned the news about “Cul De Sac”. I am truly sorry to hear it, and to hear that your illness, Richard, is taking such a toll on you. Best wishes in the days to come, and I will continue to enjoy “C.D.S.” for as long as possible. It is a unique and fun comic.
I haven’t been close to tears about a cartoonist retiring his strip since Charles Schulz. Thank you, Richard. I’ll keep praying for a cure for Parkinson’s – a dreadful disease that nobody should have, especially someone with your talent, wit, and obvious kindness!
Richard, the news is shattering. Peace, courage, strength and healing to you. God go with you. Schulz was just mentioned here; I can’t help but think that he would have loved your strip every bit as much as the rest of us. Cul de Sac is truly the BEST comic strip in the papers. You know, I hope I see it topped someday, but I doubt it’ll happen. Thanks for bringing your talent every day that Cul de Sac has run.
