I feel that there is a major emphasis on snot in this strip.Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Augh, love what a horrible feeling. Enjoy it while you can bbecause when its gone… oh the hurt.

Kinda harsh there, Kranadon! Obviously you don’t have a sister or lead a very exciting life yourself.

At the moment, Brad is acting like the typical older brother; however, not like a typical ‘mature’ older brother. This shows that Luann, really, does not have anyone to turn to for empathy and advice as she struggles through her feelings for Quill.

why is Brad there in a teenage boys room? i thought he and TJ rented a house?

Since when did Brad become so buff? He hasn’t looked this buff under his shirts. I believe Greg is trying to give Brad some sex appeal. Perhaps he observed that some fans drooled over Dirk for his physique in despite of his dark character. Since he started drawing a pretty female character in Toni, she drew huge fan base based on her appearance. I guess superficial stuff such as looking pretty counts for a lot.

Just when I thought it would be a funny strip, and it’s snot.

And of all the people she falls apart around, it’s her big brother. Really says something about her relationship with him now. She didn’t break down around her friends, her parents…

Great. Now at the first sign of attraction Luann is going to become one of those obsessive controlling girlfriends.

I think you’re too tough on TeethJewels. He’s just in it for laughs. He’s like Knute with smarts. Gotta have a few loose cannons to help the story flow along without getting too boring. Not boring? Oh, you should see what it would be like without TrueJerk, Knute, Crystal, Tiff, Dirk & Leslie Knox! Did I forget anyone – Oh yeah, Ann?

Is Luann a virgin?

“You gotta have the villian to oppose the hero.”.Oh, Oh – you’re slipping – called TrickyJob the hero. Now wait, you don’t mean that Sweet Annie is the hero? Everyone knows she’s the villian.

“You gotta have the villain to oppose the hero.”-But it doesn’t have to be the same villain. If the villain is never defeated, then the hero never wins.-The old war based television shows had the enemy to defeat. Medial shows have diseases to defeat (or in House’s case to finally diagnose, even if the patient dies). Cop shows have the bad guys to defeat. Romances have the true love to be wooed and won.Lassie had Timmy to save.Gilligan had a rescue to screw up.Andy had people to calm down and Helen to woo.-M*A*S*H was interesting in that they finally realized they didn’t have to have a Frank Burns or at least not the same one; they had plenty of conflict saving lives and pontificating on how much better the world would be if they just let North Korea and the USSR take over. Hot Lips could mature. Klinger could grow to care for Korean lassies (not the canine type).-The lovely Ann could become a better person and help them fight off the invading vampires with Spike and Faith.(They turned Cordellia into a sort of good guy as well as Harmony.)

I think she was just being funny.

It’s amazing how the moment you can’t have someone you convince yourself that you’re in love with him.

She’ll get over it.

The belligerant, uncaring, older brother theme is getting stale. Evans always casts their relationship in this light, not realizing that the characters are actually getting to an age where this mentality starts to peter out. Brad is old enough he should be past this and Luann should be getting there as well.

Luann takes part in a student exchange program and in a hilarious government mixup, Quill arranges the same thing. They BOTH exchange and Luann is in Australia and Quill is back at Pitts. Isn’t THAT the pits? :-)

“I hope Ann ends up doing a tap dance on those teeth and knocks a few dozen of them out.”-TJ is a good example of a potential bad guy turned into an ally — therefore good guy. He may have had a few youthful indiscretions in the distant past but now everybody on this planet (and probably most of the people on yours) loves the fine person he’s turned into. He’s friendly, open, caring, good with monsters small and large, no longer teaching others how to get free drinks out of machines by unplugging them at the right time.-Now if only he can save the externally lovely Ann from herself so that she doesn‘t look back on a life filled with hollow victories and friendless associations….

Luann ought to let that loser go and get on with her life.

How come brad is back home?

I did think that Bernice is probably the closest thing to a plain girl in the Evans universe. In contrast, come to think of it, most of the male regular characters in the strip are pretty ordinary looking, odd looking, or downright homely. I don’t mind that—it feels more like real life—but when I think about it, only T.J. really has good looks, and they are of the slightly smarmy variety (even though I like him). He’s rather like a cross between Eddie Haskell and the 1980’s incarnation of Michael Jackson (in his Jheri curl days). The other handsome guys have been temporary romantic interests or other walk-on’s.

I could argue about how good looking I think some of the pretty girls in the strip really are (I think a few of them really overdo both the makeup and the collegen injections), but clearly they are intended to be very attractive, so it’s an interesting contrast in Evans’ artistic approach to portraying the sexes in his strip.

Kranadon’s profile page comes up if you google it. All of his/her recent comments were trashing numerous comic strips. Sounds like a troll to me.

Lev and Eagle- both right! Would be funny! Not for eaither of the kids tho’. I’m hoping BF will come to Phoenix in Sept for my 75th B-day, but even thinking of returning there. We need to spend more time together and I’d like him to initiate some.

Actually I said Bernice was “the closest thing to a plain girl in the Evans universe” which isn’t exactly the same thing. I also remember when she had her flattering makeover many years ago, which she still has to this day.

Guys. I KNOW Brad is a firefighter and is required to be in shape. By buff, I did NOT mean “fit.” “Fit” means physically in shape. Buff means nicely muscled with drool factor. Brad merely looked fit under his shirts but buff in those wife-beaters.
