1) No they don’t and 2) no they aren’t. As Jacques Cousteau put it best (after pointing out that dolphins are trapped by things that wouldn’t slow a human down for five seconds had we their leaping ability): they don’t have human intelligence – they have dolphin intelligence. And we have the ego point of view, which no animal has and which truly sets us apart. An animal knows – it can tell us that it knows – but it doesn’t know that it knows.
My sister collected Beatles cards and I collected Batman TV series cards. 4 cards and a stick of bubble gum for a nickel. Now those were the days. Wonder what ever happened to those cards?
Peanuts had a similar strip one time where Charlie Brown was looking for a particular favorite baseball player card and Lucy had it … he tried everything to trade her for it, but she said no and he wandered off dejectedly. Then she left and threw the card away over her shoulder as her interest was only peaked by Charlie Brown’s interest.

I can see Calvin as a 40 year old, single and at the Comic Con.

Wait, there’s supposed to be a purpose? When did that start?
artybee about 12 years ago
No wonder he doesn’t have a complete set if he’s only bought $20 worth.

Just because Susie doesn’t collect gum cards dose not mean she has no purpose in life you smuck. She may start collecting smucks very soon now .
arye uygur about 12 years ago
I’ll bet adult Susie doesn’t read or comment on GoComics either.
skeeterhawk about 12 years ago
Hmm. Lots of religious ‘peddlers’ would love to ‘show you’ or ‘sell you’ a purpose in life.

Somebody needs to create Captain Napalm comics. That is a super hero comic I would read.
Chris Kenworthy about 12 years ago
@leftwingpatriotNo, he’s married to Susie, and they have a kid. But he still goes to Comic-con, and she still doesn’t entirely get why. ;)

Having no purpose serves no purpose, except as a pretext for denying allegience to the Creator.
tirnaaisling about 12 years ago
That has always been my purpose in life…. Oh wait…
Spudart about 12 years ago
OH wow! I hope there are more Calvin comics about bubble gum cards. This rules.
StrangerCoug about 12 years ago
Don’t worry, Calvin—your collection is nothing. Some people my age have very screwed up ideas of what exactly life’s purpose is.

Moms. The destroyers of all potential collectible wealth.

You need to buy more gum, Calvin, that’s the only answer.

No “special purpose” either? (Steve Martin, The Jerk)
