Luann by Greg Evans and Karen Evans for September 07, 2012
Transcript:
Toni: "If Luann tells Quill she loves him, he'll either say he loves her back or he doesn't love her" Brad: "Right. She has a 50% chance of finding out he loves her" Toni: "But she won't know it's real. Maybe he's just being kind. She should wait for HIM to tell HER. Then it's 100% real" Brad: "Like you did with me" Toni: "Yes. When I told you I loved you, that was better than you asking me, right?" Brad: "If by 'better' you mean it changed my life forever. Then, yeah"

Toni contradicted herself. According to her comments in panels 1 &3, her saying “I love you” to brad first made it authentic therefore making Brad’s response possibly insincere, “being nice” to unquote Toni. Does Toni even realize what she is saying? And apparently Brad hasn’t caught on. However, it is easier to assess the sincerity saying it to a face rather than on paper or email or text. Hopefully Luann will opt to go the Skype route.

As Will Rogers said, there are two ways to argue with a woman. Neither one works.

Isn’t Luann telling Quill she loves him the same as Toni telling Brad she loved him? Did Brad hate Toni for telling him she loved him because Toni was forcing a response?

Tell my wife I lover her all the time. It’d be nice to hear it in return once in a while.

Some of you take ths strip way too seriously. And I’ll say it again. Quill has already moved on.

Brad didn’t advise Luann to ASK him if he loved her. He advised her to tell Quill she loves HIM. It’s different.

Why is Toni’s example not proof that Luann should call Quill?

……………..Once upon a time, this strip was funny enough, centered around the growing pains and pitfalls of a young girl. Now it’s turning into a soap opera.

Waiting is a bad idea. Look how well waiting has gone for her in the past. And what Toni is advising Luann NOT to do is exactly the thing that Toni did.

By her logic it SHOULD be Luann who says it first, unless she’s operating on the theory that it’s always better for the “other” person to say it first. Or maybe she’s being secretly shallow and thinks the more attractive person should say it first.

I must have missed that strip. I dont remember seeing the panel where Toni told Brad she loved him!

Et tu, Dave??? I could provide examples of many relationships where the man was doing the controlling. Can we agree that a relationship with a controller is an unhealthy one, no matter which gender is involved? But I think this series of strips was supposed to be much more light-hearted than that.

Hmm, I can’t whole-heartedly agree with this wait-for-the-other-person-to-say-it-first philosophy. Both parties could be waiting a looooong time. If you want to know something, maybe just ask? Calmly, gently, in a tone of voice not dripping with need or fear of rejection?

So much rather know that he just knew that we could never manage with his 3 and my 4 kids (7 total) to even consider having our own; My lover is the best choice ever!

Makes no sense. Luann has to wait to tell Quinn she loves him until he says it first, but it was ok for Toni to tell Brad she loved him first. WTH??
