I like mushrooms on my pizza along with sausage, onions, and bell peppers. Pepperoni — not because they’re pig tongues — at times no, other times yes.

And Master Petey, would your preferred topping be some succulent anchovies?

Petey’s pizza. Plain..just a tiny smear of butter. Essentially pizza crust toast.

Pepperoni is made with Boar’s taint, not tongue.

Pepperoni is the one topping (other than cheese, sauce, and spices) that I insist on for a pizza. But I also like anchovies, when I can get anyone sharing the pizza to agree to it. I wonder what Petey would think of that.

I think it’s a minor wonder that Petey would eat pizza at all. All those “ingredients” touching each other, Plus the hand tossing. Ick.

Unusually, the anchovy fans have clustered here for some reason. I have to chime in that I, too, like an anchovy pizza. Most of the time, when I write that, I’m assailed by a barrage of people who loathe anchovies. So it’s nice to see a sympathetic crowd. It is true, however, that every individual who is to eat some of that pizza must be okay with the taste of anchovy. There is no such thing as 1/2 an anchovy pizza.

I enjoy pepperoni, but never knew, or asked, what it was made from. This is why names like pepperoni exist. If it was named for what’s in it, like any sausage, no one would willingly buy it. By giving it a “neutral” name, it becomes marketable. I have eaten organ meats and tongue without knowing what they were and found I enjoyed the taste. Others, like liver, not so much. I abstain from pepperoni, or any type of sausage, now for reasons of heart health. No moral objections to any of it.

I like a good cheese pizza. A good cheese pizza has oregano in the sauce. If you aren’t going to properly spice it, then I’ll have peperoni and/or sausage. NEVER fungus or fish (on anything). I welcome green pepper and onion in other dishes, but not on my pizza.

My little brother would only eat what sister and I called naked hamburgers when we got McDonalds. Bun and patty. That was it.

He went into the Navy and became a gourmet.. LOL! He even makes pasta!

No fungus among us! As an aside, Papa Murphy’s stuffed crust chicken and bacon pizza is mighty fine…

Had a family friend with a boy a lot like ol’ Petey. Nothing but cheese pizza. And often, several times per week.

Given his frequently-stated opinions about mixing different types of food, I’m surprized he doesn’t have the same reaction to pizza just on its own.

Pepperoni, an Italian-American creation, is a cured dry sausage, with similarities to the spicy salamis of southern Italy on which it is based, such as salsiccia Napoletana piccante, a spicy dry sausage from Naples, or the soppressata from Calabria. The main differences are that pepperoni is less spicy, has a finer grain (akin to spiceless salami from Milan), is usually softer in texture, and is usually produced with the use of an artificial casing. Pepperoni is mass-produced in America to meet the demand for the sausage, which is frequently used as a pizza topping.Pepperoni is made from pork or from a mixture of pork and beef. Turkey meat is also commonly used as a substitute, but the use of poultry in pepperoni must be appropriately labeled in the United States.Curing with nitrates or nitrites (usually used in modern curing agents to protect against botulism and other forms of microbiological decay) also contributes to pepperoni’s reddish color, by reacting with heme in the myoglobin of the proteinaceous components of the meat used.

I am almost as picky as Petey, and I like just mushrooms on mine. Yes, I do eat fungus. Pepperoni looks so greasy, especially when it gets cooked and ends up looking like little cups of fat. I will eat pepperoni when sharing with someone who feels a need for it, but I will blot some of the fat off. Ham is a good exchange for me, but almost everyone I know wants pepperoni.

I can relate to Petey quite often, but when it comes to food we differ vastly. I am an omnivore, and a voracious one at that. I have zero food phobias, with the exception of poorly prepared food. I’ll eat your share of mushroom pepperoni pizza, Petey.

I love how Alice is unfazed by Petey’s “proclivities.”

A little unrealistic. Surely Mrs Otterloop knows better than to even consider asking for Petey’s input on pizza toppings. (Starting with the detail that it’s the very nature of pizzas to have different kinds of food “touching” one another, making it unlikely that he would ever even consider eating pizza, or perhaps being in the same house with a pizza.)

I was unsure about pizza until the guy told me I could as little or as much of whatever I wanted, so I had tomato sauce and bacon only, eventually adding pineapple (STFU haters).

I figure Petey for a pure naked pizza, i.e., just a bit of crust, zero toppings.

But is something like that really a pizza?

He couldn’t stand cheese or butter because it comes from cows! Tomatoes have seeds, even in sauce!
