Famous detective Dick Tracy has the most recognizable mug around, especially in the city where he works. How many times has his square-chinned puss been on page 1 of the Daily Blast, the Daily Express, the Daily Weekly, etc.? Some cheap make-up makes him unrecognizable to Liz? I don’t think so.
It would be more believable if he went indigent lunar drag, dressing up as homeless Moon Maid.
Maybe there will be a classic case of mistaken identity and undercover Thick will encounter a bunch of undercover “special forces” guys (remember them?), all of them dressed as bums, and a comedic chase and shoot-out will occur.
I’ve been wondering why the money gets handed out in an envelope. Now I get it. Drawing an envelope takes less effort.
What sort of place is Nappingville, anyway? The cops are all out to lunch and they’ve got small boys roaming the downtown streets and alleys alone. This looks like a pedophile’s fantasy.
And if all the other homeless knew about the giveaway, wouldn’t they be flocking to Homeless Guy?
What a sad, pathetic excuse for a strip
Fostered by imbeciles and written by a dip
Inane, banal and hopelessly trite
Locher it seems, long ago gave up the fight
What a deplorable end to the once famed dick
It’s enough to make even the stoutest fan sick
The days drag on and on and on
We count down the time till Locher is gone
Will there anything left for another artist to save
Or is Tracy finally destined for the grave.
One whole panel wasted letting us know that Homeless Guy is still around and in business. Like he was going to take his own advice and lay low? And why does that kid smile at the sight of an envelope?
Can’t wait to see how the man in panel #3 reacts to Thick. “Bro? Oooh, you are such a jive-talkin hepster, daddy-o! And (sniff, sniff) what’s that aftershave you’re wearing? How it clings to you like a fake beard, as though despite your scruffy appearance you have just this morning bathed and shaved! Hey, you remind me of someone, yes, that detective who framed me for kiting checks! Let’s step in the alley and discuss it, Tracy!”
“You could fool me, Tracy”…yeah, real hard to fool Lizz…Tracy’s been fooling her for years into thinking he’s still a competent detective. And Tracy, great disguise, Bro.
Thought 3-D (?) was ‘laying low for a while’ (9-17-10), that’s last week, yet - he’s still around (?) Back then he told himself :“However, I won’t hahe to curtail my plan”
A plan ? Why do I suspect we will never hear what HIS plan was (?)
If it’s 3-D (?) you’d have to think it makes _NO_ sense, withdrawing ‘millions’, dressing like a beggar and then giving away thousand dollar bills, a sure-fire ‘attention’ getter (?)
We’ve heard he wants to get REVENGE against former associates (now at Wehrli) how could these elaborate, round about acts including setting up a fake body possibly achieve that ?
This story has no plot. Locher ‘thinks up’ what is going to happen NEXT - _ ONE_ week at a time !
Constantly changing his mind (each week) accounts for the on-going JERKY continuity.
As someone noted this story is now into week 9, and all we have had - is a missing man, a body, plus loads of repetition, paste up buildings, dead slow pacing and a WHACKING lot of meaningless TALK
Sydney Phillips, that’s why I still think it’s possible that Homeless Guy is not D-cubed. Only a perfect idiot could write a story with the flaws you’ve described, and we all know that Locher is perfectly imperfect.
Although I have to admit Locher keeps surprising me with his “plot” twists. I never expected Thick to dress up for Halloween this early.
Here’s what the Comics Curmudgeon has to say about today’s strip:
Chief Liz is right. In fact, Dick will eventually fool himself, arrest himself for vagrancy, and then die a grisly and mysterious death at his own hands while in self-custody. His last words will be a lame wisecrack about how he died. At the funeral, friends will say, “He would have wanted it this way”, and they’ll be right, too.
Wndrwrthg or “POET LAUREATE” as Sydney Phillips named him, wondered if Tracy was finally destined to the grave. Maybe he’ll be a backboard in his next life and people will throw basketballs at him .Sure it will be glass, because people who read him here have been seeing through him for sometime now.

Hey, sure beats anything Locher has planned.

Flight Suit:
Good point. Or maybe it’s not inadvertent. He was sure eager to dress up.

Ludwig von Drake called it right!
It’s sad to see that Liz’s observational skills have sunk so low. Thick looks like Lon Chaney, Jr., during a partial eclipse.
Now, Thick? How are you going to describe your cousin? Did the vast number of witness you interviewed describe him?

Great writing, WW.
And I really enjoyed these lines from yesterday:
“So another day passes in Dick Tracyland “A place where reality just pounds sand”
How true - and LOL funny.

There are many uses for dart boards, OzzieJohn.
Panel-Panner has a good idea there. Where is Mack Sennet when we need him?

Hey, it’s a nice development, I can’t remember the last time Dick went undercover, he used to do it a lot in the 1930s!!!
