Well, there’s finally no doubt that Little Notting is dead. That’s the end of one of Gould’s old-time characters. If the new management is a takeover from within, that’s why they recognized him.
My crazy theory is that Notting’s killer and replacement is none other than Specs, who made his debut in early 2016 in the same story to feature Notting’s return. He’s somebody Notting would know and have reason to try to kill, he’s somebody within the Apparatus they would know, we never fully saw his face, just like the current “Ace”, and his girlfriend Spicy could be the one providing him with insider information on Diet Smith Industires.
Just a crazy theory. We’ll know within a few weeks how close or far it is from the truth.
Sam is looking a bit wistful. Was there a “connection” that is not talked about ? Do Tracy’s closed eyes in P.3 mean he is taking a micro snooze ? If he can sleep on his feet without toppling he’s one (two feet) up on me.
1-CHIEF: Whadayr doin’ back in here no for, Tracy? DT: I need to tell you about Sam’s fixation on Little Knothead…
2-…I think he’s smitten. He just stares at his picture for hours on end…
3-…Should we send Sam back to Gay Conversion Therapy Camp?
CHIEF: NO YOU DUNCE! Sam is going undercover as Knothead. He’s just trying to memorize all of Knothead’s mannerisms!
DT: Hmmmm. Did I forget to tell you that Knothead is dead? I definitely told Sam.
CHIEF: One – TRACY YOU IDIOT. Two – Yeah, better send Sam back to camp for a refresher. Find one where they use a Bible like we use a phone book in the Interrogation Room. Maybe they’ll smack his genetic material straight – so to speak.
DT: Good idea Chief. Like we say in the I.R. – THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE or at least a confession will, we promise!
Stop the presses! If the new Ace of Spades is running the Apparatus, why did he go to them as though he were an outsider? And who is Grumpy Grouch with the cigar?
During the entire original 52 Gang story, Ace kept his identity a secret. Tracy infiltrated the gang by posing as the 10 of Spades. He acted as if he had larangytis to disguise his voice. The gang had a hideout on a mesa in South Dakota (similar to Devil’s Tower).
The Space Coupe had been stolen by King and Ace. They had also kidnapped Dyne O’Matik (inventor of the Space Coupe) as a pilot. While disguised, Tracy went with King of Spades and Ace on a mission in the Space Coupe to buy a supply of Narcotics. Once they got aboard and got airborn, Tracy revealed himself and took charge. There was a fight and King was ejected into space and died but Ace was captured.
Back at headquarters Ace was unmasked and the readers saw his face for the first time.
The 52 Gang story was also the first Space Coupe story. I read this story when it originally appeared in the newspaper and I was a mere youth.
I actually thought at first when I read it that his name was “Little Nothing,” which seemed proper by the way the Chief described him with an inferiority complex.
He immediately ratted out his gang and was even taken with Tracy to the Mesa in a police helicopter where he gave orders for his gang to give up over the copter’s loudspeaker…they didn’t give up but that’s another story.
I could use Diet Smith’;s time drone to figure out today’s strip. Panel 1 presumably takes place some time before Panel 2, when Tracy fills the Chief in on Little Notta’s fate (Tracy wouldn’t say both Notta’s disappeared & that his body turned up in the same conversation, that makes no sense) but then Panel 3 seems to take place right after Panel 1. Is everyone as confused as I am?
Tracy’s chat with Chief Patton leaves him on the track of the Apparatus. The Apparatus, embodied in New Ace, is on the track of the Time Drone. And so the entanglement shows us the path forward in this convoluted epic. It remains to be seen how, or if, Rikki’s pregnancy ties in also….

Does anyone know where avenger09 is lately? He hasn’t posted in a while and I miss sparring with him.

Is Little Notting related to the Shaky family? He is a little bit trembly in the monitor.

This guy Notting had an “A” branded in his forehead? Who are these people…human beings or livestock?

“The Apparatus would never hand the reins over to an outsider”. Oh they are able to replenish their numbers like that via births or adoptions?

His (Notting’s) murder came from within the ranks? Nah…they had a coup d’e tat…the Apparatus…maybe the deceased turned down their retirement package.

Why are the monitors in the squad room so oddly shaped? Are they leftover prototyprs from Diet Smith’s lab people?
