I’m a little late today. There’s too much going on around my place.

Anyway, I love the image of the armsman firing squad and like dennis4476, the unusual layout of today’s strip. What Mysta and Honeymoon are afraid to look at, we also do not get to see — at least until tomorrow. When Honeymoon was given permission to go on this trip, I don’t suppose that anyone suspected she was about to witness the execution — or at least attempted execution — of her two grandfathers!

Shouldn’t they be FINGERMEN?

They are giving Dick the finger!

If Dick Tracy has a mirror, it won’t be a good reflection on them…

I just noticed the unusual fog or clouds around Mysta’s and Honeymoon’s antennae! Representing sorrow?

If this is the very last strip to be published, at least Tracy went down in a blaze of glory.

For all my recent criticism of Mike, I have to give credit when due; he can still craft a great cliffhanger!

At first I was thinking that Tracy’s rubberized raincoat would protect him from hostile Moon zaps, but now I’m thinking he has something else up his sleeve.

A full house beats four aces, but Nothing beats a loaded finger!

When they do this on Broadway (Dick Tracy and the Return of the Moon Men) this will be the big show stopping number.

well, I didn’t expect THAT reaction from Honey, but she IS a young girl, to begin with, and frightened as all-hell in witnessing an attempted execution of her granddads, so I can accept that… at THIS point, I don’t believe Mysta will come into play against the Armsmen, as she is there only to catch and comfort Honey… and if this IS the case, then there was absolutely no reason for them to even be there if they weren’t going to play a major factor in assisting or saving Dick and Thorin… so yes, tomorrow’s installment will finally have the grand reappearance of the much heralded, much vaunted, fallback easy solution known as the Bribery ring… all the easy-to-pleasers out there will finally have a good night’s sleep knowing that logic and common sense in this case went out the window… so disappointing to have to fall back on such a convenient and contrived excuse to use… if it DOES happen in the Sunday installment… thanks for NOTHIN’, Mike…

Are the girls huddling together in their rock shelter in order to maximize the (somewhat debilitating) strength of their defensive mindcast for Thorin and Tracy? Or are they just unable to face the disintegration of the Pop Pops?

Does Tracy have some defense we are not aware of (and please don’t mention that durned ring again!)? Is some other outside agency going to nullify the deadly discharge from the Armsmen’s fingers?

Sunday’s strip should be full of revelation and revolution!

Finally, add my adulation for today’s art work!

I haven’t been on the board much lately. I have designed the scenery for a production of the 1925 Noel Coward comedy HAY FEVER and Previews began last night.

Previews are performances before the show has officially opened. Audience members get the chance to purchase tickets at a greatly reduced rate and the Directors and Designers get the opportunity to view the show for errors, problems, audience reaction, etc. and make corrections and tweaks before facing the press and critics at Opening Night. In a comedy like HAY FEVER it allows the actors to hear audience response and judge where in the show their laughs will come so that they may improve their comedy timing.

Many times in previews, actors and Costume Designers discover that they may not have enough time for a costume change. Scenic Designers (the position I have on this production) get to see if there are problems with any scenery that must change, if doors and windows work, if the scenery shakes when doors get slammed, and other minor things that could go wrong.

We had a relatively smooth first preview last night. One of the walls of the set did not seem as solid as it should and that problem was corrected before tonight’s show. An unforseen problem occurred when the garden door was slammed—the curtain on the window next to the door kept blowing from the air movement of the slamming door and getting caught in the door when it slammed. Problem fixed for tonight’s show.

Meetings tomorrow morning, matinee preview in the afternoon, meeting following matinee. This will be my schedule pretty much for the next week. Official Opening September 4th.

I don’t know Tracy’s plan, but I hope it takes that air of superiority off that cretin Ro-zan!
