Doonesbury by Garry Trudeau for October 05, 2013
Transcript:
Sam: Okay, so obviously I'm too young for Prince Harry right now. My plan is to just chat him up at first... let him get to know me, become the girl of his dreams, so after he gets through his bad-boy period, he'll come looking for me! Zonker: What if he's too late? What if by then you're trapped in a loveless relationship in L.A.? How would he find you? Sam: He'd ask his MI people. Zonker: MI-5? James Bond's outfit? Sam: They'd find me, and they could make my stupid boyfriend disappear.

Google “Operation Ajax” to learn the effects of when MI 6 and the CIA teamed up in 1953. Most Americans don’t know this and I’ll just guess most Brits don’t either.

She was born in a strip in ‘92, and this rerun is in 2011. So if Doonesbury comic time keeps pace with real-life time (and there’s nothing to say that that’s so), then she would be about 19.

She sure was her Mother’s Daughter back then…..probably from too much time with Zonk

And don’t forget MI-7, the exciting new action adventure starring Tom Cruise, Jr.

And yet no strips from Trudeau about how our fearless leader uses the Stasi … err, NSA … to spy on his own people.

The British royals serve as a cautionary tale against inbreeding.

What happened to MI1-MI4?

Yeah, ask Di how useless they can be when you’re running about besmirching the image of the Royal Family. . . Oh, wait, that’s right, you can’t. They can become rather a bit more than ruthless if it’s needed at the moment. Queen Elizabeth has a great deal of political capital squirreled away. If she wanted something to happen, I imagine it would.

Kritter, apparently they went up to MI-19 and each had a different function. All were folded into Military Intelligence 5 and 6, based on the room numbers they occupied.

Strictly speaking, they’re not MI5 and MI6 either, and haven’t been for a long time. MI6 is the Secret Intelligence Service, “the Firm”, or SIS, and MI5 is the Security Service, “the Service”, who, er, don’t like to be known by their initials… However, search engines being what they are, both of them have had to give in and put the MI designations in the titles of their websites.
