Moderator: The next question is directed to the three amateurs... a failed executive, a retired neurosurgeon, and a celebrity clown, none of whom has ever served a day in elective office. What makes any of you think you're remotely qualified to be a leader of the free world? Ms. Fiorina? Carly Fiorina: How hard could the job be? George W. Bush did it for eight years! Moderator: Dr. Carson? Ben Carson: I agree. It's not exactly brain surgery. Moderator: Mr. Clown? Why should voters... Donald Trump: Three words: supermodel first lady!

Female immigrants from former Czechoslovakia and Slovenia, good.Immigrants from Mexico — especially male immigrants — bad. (unless they are working on your Ma-a-Largo Club or golf courses).

The greatest president in this country’s history, Abraham Lincoln, had only served one term in the House of Representatives before becoming president. His predecessor, James Buchanan, who is ranked as one of the worst presidents, had served as a U.S. Senator, Ambassador to the United Kingdom, and Secretary of State.

Imo the US should allow Mexican migrants in on condition that they go live in places like Detroit where there are a lot of houses standing empty, and do something to revamp the area. You have people looking for homes, and houses looking for residents.

In order for U.S. citizens to be hired for the jobs immigrants take, they have to apply for them. They don’t.

Coyoty has a point. I wouldn’t presume to talk about what goes on in the U.S., but here in Canada, the jobs most poor immigrants do (especially from Latin America), are those we Canadians don’t want to do, the hard, back breaking stuff, like picking tomatoes and other vegetables in greenhouses. I’ve worked in the installation of control networks in greenhouses, and no matter the weather outside, inside it’s hot and humid. In the time I worked in them, I never once saw a Canadian doing it….only Latin American immigrants. And they were happy to do it, because even the small pay they got was more money than they could ever make back home…which raises another point: no Canadian would want to work for that amount. If they did the job, they would want much better pay, and the price of tomatoes would go up as a result, and everybody would complain…it’s a complicated issue that cannot be resolved with simplistic solutions.

+1 Illegal immigrants have displaced citizens in poultry processing plants and the drywall industry. Businessinsider says "In the past decade, construction, manufacturing and leisure and hospitality industries have employed the most undocumented workers. " Illegal residents can bring in invasive species that can harm our crops. That is why the Department of Agriculture has inspectors at ports of entry. The cases of MMR Tuberculosis enter the U. S. from Mexico. Start thinking of words like Ebola, Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and the “next big disease”. They can all be brought into the U. S. by illegals.

If Obama can do it, anyone can do it. Unfortunately, he couldn’t. At least the people Trudeau mocks have individually succeeded and if you think of Fiorina as a failure, you get too much info from clowns like Trudeau and not enough from the real world.

Several thousand lost their jobs at HP on Fiorina’s watch. And even if they didn’t, being a successful business person is not the same as being POTUS or any other high profile government leader position. In terms of Obama, his accomplishments are long and very important to the future of everyone who lives in the US: healthcare reform, bringing back the US economy from the brink of disaster, getting us on the path of getting out of a couple of wars, etc. When GWB left office, we were losing jobs at the rate of several hundred thousand per month. My goodness, people have such short memories! Way back in 2007, you think back now… I am willing to give GWB credit for his work on HIV in Africa, a positive thing that he did, however being president involves far more than this in terms of things that have to be done…

There is a reason why illegals come to this country-jobs. There is a relatively easy way to stop them, remove the incentive. Fine employers heavily enough to make them refuse to hire anyone who doesn’t have proof of their right to be in this country. That provides the money to support the program. The illegals just have to report to the bus station for transportation back to the border, maybe even give them a nest egg to get them started again in their home county.
………. No job, no reason to stay here that’s legal, and then we can arrest those whose reasons are not legal, much smaller target.

I look forward to seeing the GOP debates this year for the entertainment value. As it was, the last time around, it was very entertaining to see the Reps debating, as it reminded me of the Will Ferrell movie, Talladega Nights, as if Ricky Bobby were up there on stage, or maybe the guys from The Candidate, with Will Ferrell and Zach Galifinakis sp? As funny as both of those movies were, they didn’t anticipate The Donald, which will put the next series of debates over the top! It will be as if we are seeing a Nascar race and one of the drivers showed up drunk.

I will be more than happy to see Carson, the Donald or Fiorina as the GOP candidate to run against Hillary. Or, if the Donald wants to ditch the Republicans that would work too. Either way really.

“That idea of immigrants bringing diseases is very old. Slightly racist.” The first sentence is correct. Its accuracy supports the need for strong border enforcement to keep disease out of the country. The second sentence contains loaded language in the word “racist”. Race or national is not a factor of this topic which is just illegal entry into the United States or Illegal residency in the United States. Which leads to the often used statement: What part of the word “illegal” don’t you understand? As for diseases, the United States is only 24 hours away from any disease because in 24 hours or less, a disease could be brought from anywhere on Earth to the United States without the knowledge of the federal government or the CDC. This could be done by first traveling to Mexico and then crossing into the United States illegally. Your attitude will change quickly if you become Patient Two.

From what I’ve seen, having been in politics too long should be a disqualifier from being president. I’d rather have someone with leadership and management experience that doesn’t have an inflated opinion of his/her self be elected. Someone who isn’t afraid to hire good people and hold them accountable for results. I’d take Carly or Ben over Hillary or Bernie. (And take Bernie over Hillary .. at least Bernie is philosophically consistent)
montessoriteacher over 9 years ago
Saying that being in politics too long should be a disqualifier, is an old wives tale. Something often repeated but I don’t think it really holds up from a practical point of view. Sometimes people hold up Reagan as someone who was an outsider, this may have been somewhat true in the early part of his career, however, by the time he became a viable candidate for prez he had already been governor of California, so it doesn’t really work in his particular case at all. Personally, I don’t want a person who doesn’t have any idea about the role of government to be in the position of being POTUS. Sounds like a catastrophic idea. I don’t know any Republicans who are truly Republican who would vote for Bernie or Hillary. There may be some in the GOP who would like the Dems to nominate Bernie because they know he would be a weaker candidate, but I am sure they would not vote for him. Many of us Dems are on to those Republicans and to some degree, Independents, who say they would vote for Bernie over Hillary. After McGovern, who many us Dems liked very much, we learned to compromise a little in order to get a person elected. The Reps need to keep losing a little longer it would seem. That is just a little free advice. But, do what you will, Republicans…

A man standing in line at a grocery store hears the woman in front of him on her phone speaking a foreign language. When she hangs up he starts in on her, " I didn’t want to say anything while you were on the phone, but this is America and in America we speak English! If you want to speak Mexican, go back to Mexico!" She replies to him, “Sir I was speaking Navajo, if you want to speak English go back to England!”

Reagan was greatest, but Obama is good too.
montessoriteacher over 9 years ago
Obama has done very well. Just because you don’t like his policies doesn’t mean he has not accomplished plenty. Fiorina, Carson and Trump are fine in the business world.Thist doesn’t mean they are qualified to be president. However, if your GOP wants to nominate any of those people, fine. Go for it. Many of us who dislike Republicans are not Communists, And though I know some who might accuse righties of Fascism or Nazism, I would refrain from such name calling personally. As Uncle Joe said, we have had some who have been non career politicians who have truly awful in government roles.

The US & it’s president are only thought of as “leader of the free world” by certain Americans who have their heads up their hindquarters. Arrogance personified to a lot of the rest of the “free world”.

Even Mexico acknowledges that many of the immigrants come from Central America and are fleeing poverty, disease and drug-inspired violence – in short, the same things that some Mexicans try to escape. Mexico’s solution has largely been to pass them through with as little expense as possible; i.e., leave them to the mercies of the coyotes. Consider the pressure caused by migrants from Africa on Italy and Greece. There are so many, and the slow and/or depressed economies in most of the world just can’t absorb so many people all at once. If there is fault, it should be laid at the feet of the men who promote terrorism, war, and wholesale murder, and those who sell or use drugs, not the people who have to flee.

“FDR did what he had to do to save the country. Parts of his programs were declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, while others were saved. The U.S. GDP was back to pre-Depression level by the end of 1937, then FDR made the mistake of cutting government spending which brought on the 1937-38 recession. He also had to fight the isolationists and find ways to aid Britain and USSR against Germany. His leadership through two major crises was incomparable. ".Which is to say he thought the country could only survive if he broke the law.Okay, I can see some Reaganesque thinking there..He may have been right and the central social contract uniting the nation needs to be scrapped, with all its protections and safeguards..I hope he was wrong and those thinking they should throw it all away and try some other imagined better government. I wish they actually looked at those better alternatives..Remember FDR ran against another man openly stating we had to understand we had to resist Hitler. The difference was that he was honest about it and healthy enough to see it through..Of course, though, by now we expect leaders to lie to us because we have been convinced they know better than we and it is all for our own good — unless they are members of a different political party, in which case, they’re evil incarnate.
