Mayor: And as mayor of Port-Au-Prince, I'm honored to present you with this traditional Haitian garland! Duke: This is great, Chief, really great. What the hell's in it? It stinks to high heaven. Mayor: Garlic and eucalyptus leaves. It wards off evil spirits. Duke: Evil spirits? What evil spirits? Mayor: Possible labor disturbances, power failures, lapses of police protection, that sort of thing. Duke: And you're giving me this? Mayor: Leasing it, actually. I'll so look forward to your expression of gratitude.

“Leasing” sounds like when the mob offers you “protection”.

Ward off evil spirits? Why not magical underwear like the Mormons wear?

So in your analogy, which state is Haiti?
Bikebrains over 9 years ago
On that very subject, the Washington Post says: “The U.S. rate of 6.1 infant deaths per 1,000 live births masks considerable state-level variation. If Alabama were a country, its rate of 8.7 infant deaths per 1,000 would place it slightly behind Lebanon in the world rankings. Mississippi, with its 9.6 deaths, would be somewhere between Botswana and Bahrain.” Way to go Deep South!

Haiti did have one good day, it was the first country in the new world to outlaw slavery by having a slave revolt that overthrew the French colonial government.

@DavidHuieGreen“I certainly doubt it was ever “FREE” to leave Mississippi or Alabama … WHO would PAY all of the expenses of doing so?”.Walk if you must.Sheesh.Surely there is no charge.Back in the 1920s, Henry Ford paid the train fares of those leaving to work for him or at least hired hundreds of thousands with enough pay to cover those coming.Does somebody else have to do everything for you?(And I don’t even live in those states.)

(Idea being free to do something does not mean somebody else has to pay for the exercise of that freedom.).Idiotic ideasPeople demanding newspapers print an 87 page manifesto under the claim of freedom of the press..People demanding TV time under freedom of speech..People demanding someone send them a bus so they can exercise their freedom of assembly..People demanding someone build them a church so they can practice freedom of religion..Free means that you may, not that others must pay
