Where does Alex get these stupid ideas? Her “egg-donor” along with her slimy stepfather?? If someone doesn’t set her straight, she may end up hacking government classified information!

Taylor seems to have somehow made money despite this theft.

I remember Mark interviewing Jimmy Thudpucker. The Jimster’s take was that music should be free on the internet and that musicians would get paid by doing live shows.

Anybody really think hippies wouldn’t have downloaded?

when you look at the price of movie tickets and the profits reported by studios it does become hard to have sympathy for them.

I’m not sure how this is different than tape-recording music from the radio.

tape-record , v. to make a recording of on magnetic tape.

Does Alex learn anything in this arc?

Tell that to the NEW musicians of your generation, Alex – they’re struggling to get a paying gig, and if it weren’t for you, they could get the recognition they deserve.

Pinned on the wall in the studio of my college radio station was album sleeve (remember LPs?) bearing the image of a cassette (remember those?) and the legend, “Home taping is killing music!” under which someone had inscribed, “And it’s about time!!”

Yeah! How dare those greedy musicians want to be paid for their work? I mean, everybody else works for free, right?

Her dad should dock her pay for the fair value of each song she downloaded. Then tell her, “It is stealing and if you don’t accept this and change your habits, I will dock your pay for each song in your entire music collection. This is an important lesson about treating ALL people fairly.”

To repeat a comment that I accidentally posted twice yesterday:

The Net interprets censorship and paywalls as damage, and routes around it. So to defeat Communism, the Internet had to adopt it!

I remember back when I first learned about emails at work and then asking the boss how does the postage get paid.

Although I realize this is a cartoon, I hope someday Alex does something for which she does not get paid because someone thought she was being “greedy”. Or perhaps she just thinks everyone should be totally altruistic and do everything for free.

That’s Vance logic.

Daughters are wonderful until they start to grow up and then they can be a real PITA.

Need a follow-up story where Alex has to move back in with her parents because a cheap AI is now doing her job.

Other people who think like this are responsible parents who care about the lessons their children learn.
