Sure, John will be uncomfortable driving with Edgar over his shoulder but I ‘d be more worried that weird look in his eyes (makes him look even more clueless about the “treatment” he’s about to get).
We had a German Sheperd who when I was getting a ride to work decides to get in the front seat. When my drive to coax her to the back she would pull the “cute puppy” routine. If I had a video recorder that would’ve easily made “America Most Funniest Videos.”
I remember one time when I wanted to run to the grocery store to pick up something for dinner. It was a summer evening, and I decided to bring my brother’s dog, Benji (a Cocker Spaniel) with me. I had a ’71 Plymouth Satellite sedan; the thing had a HUGE back seat and Benji really enjoyed the ride. He seemed almost sad when I came out of the store after only 5 minutes (how long does it take to grab & pay for a frozen dinner?), like his adventure was almost over.
I used to take one of our pitties to the park with me. All the way there, she’d be rocketing from side to side in the back seat, trying to look out both windows at once.
I don’t know where they are going. John looks like he has his robe on and it looks like it’s very early in the morning, or late evening. if it is to the vets, then maybe it’s just cold and he has on a coat.
With a big dog, they can be in the front AND back. :-D But I’ll always cherish the memory of the first time we went through an automatic car wash with the big white standard poodle we had when I was in college. He was unusually large for a poodle (75 lbs, not at all overweight, just BIG — he had even larger siblings) and pretty aggressive. We had to be a little careful with him, especially around small children. But for all his bravado, he was a total fraidy-cat. My mom and I had him in the way back of our Grand Jeep Wagoneer (mid-90s model) and pulled into the car wash. He seemed to be asleep. Then the car wash started, and the next thing we knew, he was in the front seat with us. :-D
Had a german shepherd that loved to go for rides. Just before a big winter storm I went to move my car to the top of the hill in case it froze over and the dog jumped in. Parked at the top of the hill and the dog looked disappointed as if saying “is that it?”
I had neighbors down the street from where I used to live. They had pit bulls. I was going for my walk one day and one of the owners was out walking with one of the dogs. We did not know each other very well but the lady stopped to talk. The dog was on a lead. That dog simply would not stop growling and barking at me. The lady told it to stop. It would not and finally she slapped the dog. I had never met the dog before.

You can see John never took this trip with Farley. He is completely inexperienced in traveling with a dog.

Considering where and why they’re going, why did Farley get in the car at all?

Why don’t they have a dog crate? I know it would have to be large, but it seems like a better way to manage a dog in a car…

He’s so cute and happy! This strip makes me smile. My dog LOVES getting in the car with me. She’s only 10lbs though, so quite different than Edgar.

Why is he wearing a robe? Simple drop off or he forgot while wrestling Edgar?

Poor Edgar… my sympathies….
Although having a Vasectomy in my sophomore year of high school would have been a blessing…
A lifelong blessing…
No shame here !….
