Frazz by Jef Mallett for August 22, 2013
Transcript:
Miss Plainwell: How much did Mrs. Olsen make here? Frazz: Almost enough for her dream bingo cruise. Caulfield: Not almost. Some dude just paid huge bucks for the last mug. Frazz; What? Who? Caulfield: That guy backing out of the parking lot really slowly and carefully.

He had to thank Mrs. Olsen somehow for saving him from a life of guilt at what would have happened otherwise.

Remorse and gratitude? Maybe there is hope for humanity…at least in the comics. :-)

: D She’d probably donate the Bingo winnings (anonymously, of course) to the school for something wonderful for the kids…

Loved this story arc. Mallet, Watterson, McDonnel – brilliant storytellers and artists!

I’ve played Bingo on a cruise before, you can’t win that much. The best prize I won covered the bar tab for the entire cruise (that included my hubby and friends).

Thanks to the commenters for explaining today’s strip! That all happened so long ago I’d completely forgotten how the story arc started. Mostly I was distracted today by Frazz’s shocked overreaction to someone paying “huge bucks” for a used mug. I thought because he was driving really slowly it meant the guy was drunk or something.

Well done! Took me a second—which is even better, because it means the lesson learned stays a little better learned. May we all drive a little more watchfully.

As good as the ending is, I feel sorry for anyone who came in late. They wouldn’t get it at all.
