This is the general problem with Caulfield. Intelligent interventions, even if disruptive, are good to liven up a class. Wiseacre interruptions take away from productive time that less gifted students need.
There’s an actor, Ian Hart, who wrote, “There’s a statistical theory that if you gave a million monkeys typewriters and set them to work, they’d eventually come up with the complete works of Shakespeare. Thanks to the Internet, we now know this isn’t true.”
But there are 26 letters in the alphabet and no real limit to how long or short you can make a word, so you’d think we’d be able to come up with enough words so we didn’t have to deal with ones that look almost, or, shoot, exactly alike and mean completely different things.

“Voila” isn’t Italian. It’s French, so it’s the French luthier who would “voila.”
