When riding for Movistar, Nairo Quintana (and teammates) held a press conference, stating that they felt power meters should be banned at the grand tours. They said experienced cyclists should ride from the heart and from instinct. This was a reaction to Chris Froome’s dependence on them.
Frazz has never flown with one of those hoods on. There is nothing “surprisingly wonderful” about flying with the hood on. You learn what you need to know, but without the beauty of the flight.
There are lots of freedoms one can enjoy, but one only re-discovers them when forced to set aside the digital entertainment centers that most carry everywhere. There is nothing like ‘being there’ instead of ‘viewing there’.
I had a 2008 Honda Civic nav/entertainment system which was affected by this very problem. Super annoying having to tilt your head like an inquisitive dog.

Although I never rated IFR, the first time I did a hooded landing at night with my instructor was most unnerving.

It’s because the display is polarized, too. If you tilt your head you can see the screen.

Glasses are designed to block glare from horizontal surfaces. That’s good!
Why are screens designed to produce that vary polarization? That’s stupid!

One’s own senses can’t tell you how fast you’re going, nor how far you’ve gone.

Why is it „I wore“, not „I’m wearing“? Past tense makes no sense to me.

I wear graduated glasses, but my goggles are single vision, so I mostly just see the speed readout.
