This kid has never seen the our turkey trot. Starts out going down a single track lane which turns and heads straight downhill. Try to funnel 5k inexperienced racers through that bottleneck, including many children who haven’t run out of steam and dropped back yet, plus the hardline competitive race crowd. There were elbows involved and I saw a grade school child get body blocked into the bushes by a grown man.
I’ve never seen one. Hmm … (duckduckgo feeds up some answers) … Okay. I’m w/ the kid. But I don’t understand why Frazz is disappointed. I thought he’d love running wearing a costume. (grin).
I much prefer a good old fashioned turkey shoot. Grandad’s old Springfield is still sighted in for one-inch groups at 100,300 and 500 meters although today’s ammo tends to allow for a four-inch drop from bullseye at 500 meters.
Fun fact: Benjamin Franklin thought that the turkey was a better national symbol for America than the bald eagle. (He never publicly promoted the idea, though.)
I think running with turkeys would be just as bad as running with bulls. And chickens are the animals most closely related to dinosaurs? Happy Thanksgiving.
Kid would enjoy the donkey races. The donkeys run with people running alongside holding a rope. Donkeys are very single-minded and may take off dragging their person or just stop to enjoy some grass and flowers. (per a book called “Running with Sherman”)

At least, that kid has earned himself some more pumpkin pie.

Better a Turkey Trot than a Turkey Drop.

Not exactly what the trots meant to us on Thanksgiving day.

Have a look on YouTube for Moe Zart’s Turkey Trot by Red Ingle & the Natural Seven, recorded in the 1940s. It will make you smile.

Running of the turkeys like the bulls in Pamplona? That would be something to see.

I DO NOT want to think about this in the context of the trots I know.

The running of the bulls can be hilarious. Especially when the idiots get gored and trampled.

If you properly cook your turkey you won’t get the trots.

This turkey isn’t planning on trotting anywhere:

In our town it’s called the Gobble Wobble. You don’t want to see the T-shirts (different every year).

An episode of Bob’s Burgers involved releasing turkeys during a Turkey Trot. It didn’t go well.
