A friend of mine had a young son in the 3rd grade who had been begging to be allowed to ride his bike to school instead of riding the bus. Eventually she gave in so off he went. When he got home from school that day he was complaing about the bus driver not letting anyone open any windows even though it was a hot day……Yep! He forgot his bike at school and then the little snot expected a ride to the school to go get his bike. Mom said, “No, you can walk to school in this heat and get your bike and maybe you’ll start being more responsible!” Yay, mom!
For his next birthday, or Christmas (whichever comes first) get him a book: “Getting Things Done” by David Allen. It should really be a required course in first-year middle school.
She should be ready to remind him and help him to do well in school. My grandmother helped me learn algebra. She learned algebra on the frontier in South Dakota in the 1890s. In those days women didn’t get scientific or engineering jobs, but I think they taught it to them so they could teach it to their sons. Pretty awesome.

I was SO happy when teachers started posting homework online. No more ‘forgot my notebook” baloney.

Has to be a pocket-size notebook. My H.S. history teacher made us use one. Still carry one with me every day for notes and doddles!
