All jeans should made of pre-shrunk fabric. Why should the consumer have to play guessing games about fit?

Back in the dark ages when I was in high school, girls would buy the tightest Levi’s or Wranglers they could find, sit in a tub of the hottest water they could stand and then go outside and let them dry on her. They didn’t have a hundred styles and sizes of preshrunk, custom made “jeans” like they have today.

I believe it is intentional, something along the lines of manufactured obsolescence. Make it so it won’t last too long and needs to be replaced. They been making cars for over 100 years and still haven’t figured it out yet. Cheap parts, rusted metal…….

Levi’s 501’s were specifically designated “Shrink To Fit”. I recall there was actually a chart (at least in some stores) that showed what size to buy based on what size you needed them to be after they’d been washed. That seemed to work reasonably well (this was in the 1970’s). The other Levi’s that I usually wore, 517’s (Boot Cut), didn’t seem to shrink much at all.
