Frank, you have to know after years of trying to fix things and always end up making matters worse that you have 2 real options: 1. Call a repairman 2. Buy a new washer as in the mid ’90s a good Kenmore at Sears or a Whirlpool from you local appliance store would not be all that expensive……
I can fix things like the dishwasher and washing machine but it only extends the life a short while. The trick is to know when to replace it before you spend a lot on parts. Interesting tidbit, the worst dishwasher I’ve had was an LG and the best washing machine I’ve had was an LG.

Reminds me that I have to look at mine, it won’t close correctly anymore, maybe there’s a screw loose.

I replaced the flapper on a toilet yesterday. That’s about as handy as I get.

If he sincerely thought he could fix it…well, lesson learned. If it was just an ego thing…well, learn that lesson too.

All that for a spoon that fell out of the rack and got caught under the impeller.

If it’s broken, try to fix it. If you can’t, the appliance needed replacing anyway.
