Actually, if you’re not accustomed to giving speeches in public, getting help in your delivery from someone with acting experience is not at all a bad idea. This story may be headed in a different direction, but the simplest explanation for Tiffany’s involvement makes good sense. Maybe Tiff can help Bern with her hair, too! Those curls are going to be hard to fit into a mortarboard hat.

Come on, Our girl Luann is not a scholar. Clearly the Bernice, Delta, Rosa (who is going to Yale) and Gunther are the fictional school academic stars. I teach at a community-college so I am not criticizing them, but that is where Luann is going to school in the Fall. She probably falls somewhere in the middle in the graduating class rankings I would wager.

If Bernice is asking Tiffany for acting help, she’s not as smart as she seems. But she may be including Tiffany to make her feel included and not take the spotlight from Bernice at graduation.

At the prom, Bernice was genuinely impressed with what a good job Tiffany had done in arranging everything. Maybe the “secret” is that Bernice has asked Tiffany to organize a surprise graduation party after the ceremony.

Since most of the comments here relate to the comic in zero, I guess I am just too out of the loop, WTF do you all think you are doing here? Is this just a little clique where you glom onto each other? Kinda looks like all the message boards for stocks. Lots of people saying stupid stuff to look important, I’m sick of it. Bye bye.

Guessing from Bernice’s Prom dress choice and her wanting to break out of her shell, she is thinking of being one hot valedictorian that no one will forget and not some “brainyack” nerd.As far as Mr. Knox is concerned, he knows that he has to “hit” everyone up now before he graduates, then he looses his only source of income, with no prospects in the future for employment. Unless Ms. Eiffel makes a return somewhere and see’s his lowlife ways of making cash.

But for what reason? What has Tiffany ever done to Bernice to warrant such retaliation?

I’m not certain of any specific incidents but, as @ReallyBad states above, the general vibes rub off. Stiil, as I say above, I hope I’m wrong. It was simply where my mind first went. Maybe I am a bit jaded in re: Tiff, but I honestly haven’t seen her do much that didn’t server her own interests/agenda in some way.

" If Tiffany helped her, she wouldn’t touch the speech, but she would do an excellent job of handling the presentation."*HtDuck – excellent observation! There are two major parts to speaking— 1) giving out the facts & ideas you want to share and 2) preparing your listeners so that they can and will receive your communication.*Bern, no doubt, knows what she wants to say. And Tiff knows how to get the audience to listen (or so I hope).*Speaking of Luann Againn (which we weren’t), whatever happened to little Lindy? She should be about 6 years old now, in Luann time. Anyone seen her or her parents?

The theme for my eighth grade graduation was …and the tree grows Three dots were at the beginning and no period were at the end. It seems very fitting theme for the way this strip is going.~Where is Ox when you need him? Leslie is picking on one Freshman kid after another. Come on, Leslie, pick on someone your own size, or does some girl need to come up behind you and give you a shove right into that poor kid or put their hands under your armpits and lift you up as high as they are able? ~Hmm, where did I get that idea?

A comment or two on the bullying we’ve been seeing for the past few days: It’s true that nothing is being done about the bullying that Les Knox is inflicting on that kid, but the very nature of bullying is that it normally occurs when no one (especially teachers and other authority figures) is watching—and that’s just the way the bully prefers it. He/she can then torture the victim all he/she wants without any repercussions. Unfortunately, though, even when the bullying IS witnessed, no one still does anything about it because they’re too afraid or they just don’t care about what’s happening. Although more schools are doing something about bullying nowadays, there are still schools and adults who brush off bullying as a “normal” rite of passage and even have the gall to blame the victims for what’s happening. That results in young people who end emotionally damaged and struggling in adult life (like I have). What’s being shown here is a contrast: while Ms. Phelps and Bernice are basking in the glow of Bernice having been chosen valedictorian, a student is being bullied by another student who isn’t being made to account for what he’s doing. That kid will end up with problems and struggle in his adult life if nothing is done about it NOW.

    > Bernice was specifically addressing whether she wanted help with her speech >How do you know she didn’t mean help in looking sharper when she delivers it? Making a good impression depends on how you look as well as on what you say and how you say it. Tiffany can’t help with the content, but Bern can handle that on her own. She may need Tiffany’s coaching on the delivery and appearance part. An if that carries over into being less of a “brain” and more of a socialite at Moony Uni, she probably thinks that’s for the better, too. Bernice does not want to be the next generation’s version of Miss Phelps.

    Folks, folks….

Don’t get tied up in thinking bad things about the students and faculty who are “ignoring” this behavior. This is just a literary device to set up whatever is to follow, without bogging us down for a week or more. This will keep the story moving at a much better rate, and will surely help it tie in to whatever else will be happening in the same general time. (I’m sure a lot of things are about to tie up all at once.)

Now I must expound. It has been established that Bernice told Phelps that she wants to pursue a degree in Psychology. Let us surmise that an old Professor of Occult Philosophy might feel that such a thing is a ridiculous exercise in psuedoscience. Instead, he would try to talk her out of attending Moony U., in order to employ her in a lucrative, clothing-free position in a private library in the Lodge of a Secret Society.
