How many people are hoping that next week will be “Luann’s 18th Birthday Memory Book: Age 11”? I don’t know, but I’m definitely not one of them.

IS Katie has schlepped upstairs (and she’s not interested in those biscuits I made yesterday as they are “history!”). She likes to hang around my hub as long as he is awake (which he usually isn’t at this time of day). Anyway, I’d better go see what she is up to! Oh, before I forget…again!…Happy New Year to all of our Jewish friends! ’Nite all! ;)-————————————————————————-“Business first; pleasure afterwards.”(William Makepeace Thackeray, 1811-1863)

Jonathan has done a great job of drawing Luann, age 10. His characters are well-drawn and consistent, more so than some cartoonists whose works grace our newspapers each day! That said, I’m ready for the present-day stories to resume. It’s time for Luann and Quill to spend some time together, for us to meet Dez, for Luann to start digging into her classes, and of course, to find out what’s happening in Peru! Oh- and to start planning a wedding!

Well, some here have all the books, etc. that they can use to help, and some have other “Luann materials”…I make use of some materials, but I don’t have the compilation books, and all…. – As for me, I usually have a “working timeline” in my memory for some events, and for the stuff I don’t remember, I use “reference notes/materials” (like articles, blogs, etc) to give me a general idea, and then I use the orange“calendar icon” up above to work “forwards or back” (sometimes leaping a few days or months or years)…..

I have enjoyed this strip for years, but I do not enjoy flashbacks, especially when they go on for days. Please stop.

OK, we’ve seen Mr. Upchurch’s art, and I feel he could maybe take over the drawing assignment for the strip someday (since the sad state of the newspaper comics industry nowadays is such that it is unlikely he could ever start up a successful new strip of his own). Now can we return to Luann at Pitt junior college and stay there? We’ve seen practically nothing of Luann’s new academic environment. We don’t even know what classes she’s taking (except that one of them is taught by a Mr. “Rain” somebody or other). We had years for little-kid Luann, and then we had the lengthy retrospective a few months ago when Fogarty retired. Can we therefore refrain from any more flashbacks for the next year or so?

“It can be heartbreaking to have a life-long companion treat you as a stranger and potential danger.”^Sadly, so true! And we become helpless, ourselves, as onlookers, as they become trapped, as it were, in a world they are experiencing gradually, each day…

If it should be Luann’s 11th birthday in this flashback, do we see her flashback to when she was 5? Maybe Mr. Upchurch has a nephew to draw it. Where will it all end?

Your brother lies around all day, Luann. Clearly, you haven’t been paying attention in English class. Well, no big whoop. You and Bernie just “lay” around all day and you’ll do just fine…. [BTW, in my time it was K; 1-8 grammar school; 9-12 high school.]

It all depends on the school district. My school was and still is K-8 with high school being 9-12. ~Then I grew up and moved to Medford, Oregon where there was no kindergarten in the public schools. If you wanted your child to go to Kindergarten, you paid some inexperienced person who decided they could teach at some church classroom. For the teenagers, Mid High was 9-10 grades, and Senior High was 11-12 grades. ~When my eldest child started public school, he went to a country school, Territorial Elementary, near Franklin, Oregon. It was grades one through four. Then they went to schools in Junction City where middle school was grades five through eight, and high school was grades 9-12. He visited there recently, and there are kindergartens in that school district now.

Mr. Upchurch did a better job on Luann’s nose and she and Bernice are actually cute. Unfortunately, they still don’t have lips. Tiffany does, but not Luann and Bernice.

Well, what much can be “drawn out” from today’s strip, “Much Ado About Nothing”? (probably should have used that one…) – And not much to ’milk out" of this one… sort of like a “day off” for us all….
