Well, it seems that everybody that said that Piro just wasn’t into Tiffany was right.

Unless the shirt is a different kind of “I <3 NY” shirt (the apple meaning the city’s nickname).

This is intersting. Maybe Berniece will get her wish after all.

Hmmm perhaps I was wrong in my conclusion. And Piro actually smiles when seeing Bernice, sort of. Plus he talks to her complimenting her as a beginning comment, and seems to offer to give her some advice as to how to blend in in New York city. Tiffany meanwhile has crashed and burned in a reprise from yesterday, although you now see her button popping failure from a different perspective. This might mean she knows that Bernice might have an opening with mysterious, and sexy, Piro, and she is then left with Gunther because Piro is not interested in her. But the last panel from yesterday has her still encouraging Gunther he has a chance with Bernice, when we now know she saw what happened between Piro and Bernice. I assume she heard the conversation, although maybe she did not see his smile. Maybe the schemer is actually scheming, as some of us have been suggesting.

Oh, and Bernice’s question: “visiting Tiffany again?” And his response, “just picked up something”, then the compliment, “nice tee.” When a guy compliments a girl, that is generally an indication he (might) be interested in her.

I know many feel Piro is some kind of disreputable bum, because he is not apparently an official paid resident of the dorm, but I never thought that. I have a very good friend, who is enormously successful in so many ways, career, family, generally in life I look up to him. He was so poor in part of his college he slept in friends dorm rooms for maybe a whole year until he could get his funding straight and eventually graduated and went on to his very successful life. Just being a broke college student does not make one a bum, or disreputable. I mean in my state of Illinois colleges are asking students to pay back state grants because the stupid state government cannot agree on a budget, and colleges have gotten no grant money budget for 9 months now. College students are in a permanent state of being broke generally, unless they have well-off parents, a trust fund, or scholarships. And scholarship students are generally broke too, but everything is paid, and they have a paid meal plan. So give the guy a break, and lets see what his story might be. I think GE is about to give us a bit more information about him.

It seems that Piro is finally noticing Bernice.

Okay, scratch Bernice and Piro. Now let’s get back to Gunther’s study of Tiff’s cleavage and see if something else can develop.

Ah, good, Bernice and Piro will happen by itself.

Gunther and Tiffany will be an interesting couple.

When I visit New York. I wear decent but not flashy clothes when walking around. I try to blend in with the crowds. A visitor is much safer that way! NO! staring at the skyscrapers!

Everything in Piro’s personal appearance is carefully calculated, distinctive—and probably expensive. he is no scruffy bum, as some would seem to have it.

Well – So much for Gunther’s quest for Berneice. How on earth does Gunther – of all people – think he should be able to have any girl he sets his sights on? Maybe there will be a sudden inspiration and Gunther will tell Tiffany that he cares really a lot for her.

I just want to help illuminate something that those who are so caught up in Tiffany’s risque outfit, and Gunther’s obviously “stimulated” response to her, while she is “innocently” trying to help him get things heated up with Bernice might be missing. . Do you notice how Bernice, who is a very pretty and smart girl, if a bit naive, and Piro, who seems quite handsome and mature, are drawn very attractively in this set of panels? Especially the last panel. And I think that “dorky” shirt looks cute on her. So maybe our two so-called smart dorky characters are very attractive characters after all. Tiffany may be very attracted to Gunther, and Piro may be attracted to Bernice anyway. It’s possible. What irony!! Also remember how down Bernice was when she thought Piro was going to go visit Tiffany again. Now she has this cute tee on, and uh oh, Piro notices her and smiles and compliments her. As I said irony, drama, hmmmmm.

Seems a New York City connection is developing here from those who are going and those who have been. Could see Prudence and Quill back in the picture.

My mother was a schizophrenic, disorganized kind (under DSM IV). In 17 years living with her the only emotion I ever saw her display was occasional frustration. Piro reminds me of her.

Does this mean that Piro is from NY?

Most we’ve heard Piro speak that I can remember. He must know something about NYC. Bits of Piro revealed, a little at a time. Maybe we’ll see another panel or two of this interaction before getting back to T&G.

It would seem that a lot of the posters here have the same problem as Bernice: taking one tiny little moment and using it as proof that Piro is into Bernice. Last time it was him leaving a scarf there, and now it’s a comment about a T-shirt.

Be careful about reading too much into things.

Obviously, Piro is an “old soul”. He’s just not into flashy. He seems to be more quiet and down to earth.

The button is the only thing of Tiffany’s that broke.

Tiffany can see Bernice when she mentions her button, and Bernice can see what Tiffany is doing.

The staring depends on the structure and the person. Plenty of people in the area admire architecture and are expected to, and some of the older structures have cool gargoyles. Some others work up penthouse gardens they appear to want seen. The staring that sets off people who are not used to the city is the type where the person realizes how deep the manmade canyon is: that sudden jaw dropping “Whoa…”. (In reverse, the top section of the Chrysler Building was built w a bathroom looking down at the rest.)

I guess no one i have read so far got the A [Pear] Tree Grows in Brooklynnote i put in yesterday.Notice that they are using three speech patterns for Piro that people who do not live in this area tend to associate with the Tristate NYC area. We may have a good hint of what place Piro considers home.

So, the smile might have nothing to do with attraction for Bernice. Instead he is probably amused about how NON-blending the shirt is, and how innocently naive Bernice is on that score. He also might want to talk about the city, give some pointers. This is a chance for him to provide a kindness and we know from him sharing the movie that he likes to do that. It also could be a chance for him to discuss someplace dear to him.

Therefore, in relation to Tiff’s button popping line, Bernice’s becomes a High Line, which is also a wonderful, wonderful park built on what was an elevated train line that begins near Penn Sta and gets you to the Village on the original part revamped, walking above the street within gardens and wildflowers, with benches available and various well performed live music scattered throughout.

Now, someone remind me. Is Ben in the Tristate area?

Piro speaks (more dialogue today than in many of his previous appearances put together; I hope he didn’t have too much trouble memorizing his lines)! Piro smiles! Piro notices Bernice! Piro knows about NYC!This is promising. And if Piro and Bernice should hit off, then Tiffany and Gunther will be more likely to get together, too!

This is nice. If things develop from here the way I want them to — B&P and G&T — then I think that ALL of the characters will get the riches they deserve.

Tiffany — gets a nice guy who is smart, funny, sensitive, real, and just needs a self-confidence boost. Gunther — Gets a great babe and a life coach (who’da thunk?) who would give him that confidence and esteem boost almost immediately.Bernice — Gets a hunky guy who will probably reveal himself to be pretty deep, with a dry but good sense of humor. And still some mystery, which will be interesting to see where that leads (and that can be a turn-on to gals like Bern).Piro — Finds someone who enjoys the same things he does. Maybe gets some stability out of the deal?I can see all that working out just grand. Of course, I’m expecting some curve balls, as usual…So back to the present moment. Hey Gunth! Florida…? Florida? Oh, yeah, the Arizona of the East where people go after a certain age for relaxation. ;-). Just teasing; a sister settled there w her family long ago, as did a great-uncle. Hey, if memory serves there is EXCELLENT Greek food to be found there. (I grew up in a very Greek area, and greatly appreciate it.)

Oh, and our favorite niece is in AZ w her family. (AZ actually IS an amazing place for seniors, though. Some relatives have wound up there w options in inhanced living, small elder group settings, and many more alternatives that just are not available in many other states.)

My mother lived most of her life in New York—after growing up in Boston— but never gave up her loyalty to the Red Sox.

I predict:.Tomorrow, Piro will go with Bern to her room for that cup of coffee, .But we will see no more of Piro for a month.,Tomorrow will end this arc..We may go off to the Warehouse tomorrow, or to Brad and Toni planning the wedding..We will not see Tiff for a few weeks..We will not see the New York trip, only hear about it..Sunday will feature Luann and Easter eggs or a chocolate bunny..Dez will make a new ambivalent prediction..Les will appear within two weeks, maybe sooner..We will not see Pru for a while, unless for NY comments..We will see nothing of Quill, not even hear of him for a long time..Les will create trouble for Frank, who will be afraid to fire him..We won’t see TJ for a while either, other than just standing around. Unless . . ..Ann Eiffel may appear at the warehouse..One of the above predictions may actually happen.

I too, would like to see some back and forth switching to the 2 developing scenarios.I don;t believe that approach has been done too many times here, if at all.

Yep. It could fit, as could learning how to eat pizza as done in NYC: excellent sauce and fresh mozz, etc on Neopolitan crust, folded, no knives and forks unless dealing w glitchy dental work, no stuff like pineapple or ranch dressing (unless donating $1,000 to the restaurant owners favorite charity as recently happened).

Using public transit, free museum days, where to get good and affordable meals, etc. also woukd be good lessons. Wouldn’t it be fun if Bernice really knows a lot about coping well in NYC by the time they get there, surprising Luann?

Fashion Institute of TechnologyThe museum has an often changing show of historic garments and sometimes other importaant things like famous photography. There is also a nearby small room which had some fun sculpture using shadows the next to last time we were there.

Maybe the reason Tiffany has not attracted any new guys in a while (even if you count Gunther, he isn’t a new guy, since they have known each other for many years) is that she still has the same hairstyle she had in junior high school, when she first appeared in the strip, in 1985:

On clothing in NYC: several years back black was hot, but this will be somewhat representative given what we have seen, and i count 4 black outfits in 25, so that woukd translate to 16%, which leaves 84% not being black outfits though sometimes it might be the neutral in an outfit along w colors.

Yes, Mea culpa, Puzz. I can not recall the towns w Greek areas there, but they were shore ones. Come to think of it, the one where i grew up in the NE also was, though there is definitely other great Greek food besides seafood. Ohhhhhhh, i am so hungry for Greek food now.
