They’re not as mature as they think. But then, cartoon strip characters rarely get divorced.

The 5 – 7 December strips show Toni holding a bouquet, but not Luann in the 6 December strip. Usually, when vows are exchanged, the maid of honor holds the bouquet while the bride and groom hold both hands, and insert rings. It shows Luann holding a bouquet in yesterday’s strip and today’s, it’s probably Toni’s.

Those are not vows. They’re very…nice…words, but they are not vows. Nowhere do either of them make any kind of promise to the other, to the community, or to God.

This is the equivalent of having the architect’s VERY NICE front elevation stapled to a facade, camping out on the lawn behind it, and pretending you have actually built the house.

No foundation or walls or roof, no house. No promise, no vow. No vows, no marriage.

Just vague good feelings and a party.
