So… the intrigue is left up in the air once again. Les still doesn’t know the scoop. I think Greg has been milking this theme for material, by not letting it come to a head as yet.

Q (borrowed from someone else): – Why aren’t the owners of the Fuze picking up the tab for this planning meeting of a program at their venue?A: (a)Because they’re as clueless as they’ve always been. (b) This is supposed to be ironic humor.Fortunately, it looks like this is the end of this installment of Les’s-futile-romantic-plotting

Do the DeGroots actually expect Les to pay for everything? On their part, that’s pretty clueless.

Well this was anticlimactic. And yes, since Frank and Nancy own the Fuze, they gotta at least put something towards the check.

And I’m still curious if Greg has any more plans for Knute and Crystal.

I get that the “humor” derives from Les getting rough justice for stealing the money, but the DeGroots don’t know that. What kind of classless jerks show up at a dinner they weren’t invited to and expect the guy making minimum wage to pay for it? Greg seems to have no clue that his “heroes” come across as loathsome freeloaders.

Man some of the absolute weirdest comments on this blog tonight! Want to see Dirk and Brad until Dirk dumps T in revenge? Personally I think this new stage is edgier and more interesting. and having past stories dealing with abuse, bullying and power issues and who knows what else does not seem to make much sense. Where does that come from? As to the current story I would like to see where it is going to be totally honest. I am totally confused right now. However going back to some of the nonsense that I see here is not a way to actually make sense. I will be waiting patiently to get some resolution of at least one arc.

I admit that this does seem to be a confused ending to this arc. After all, it was supposed to be about Les’s attraction to a woman who would never return his affection, and that point got lost in all this stuff about him having to pay for dinner for 3 other people he didn’t invite. Plus, instead of the romantic dinner for two he was expecting, he got a business dinner. So I don’t see any resolution to the dramatic tension…

Everybody should know by now that the Evanses don’t worry about details like Frank & Nancy & Luann sticking Les with paying for their dinners. The point is for Les’s romantic plans to fall apart hilariously, with everyone mis-crediting him with the good deed of enabling the Youth Theater to boot. Look for future episodes of the Les-Pru-Youth Theater triangle as Les gets undeserved credit for the success of the Youth Theater, despite his worst intentions.

Weird Comment #19: It was a setup. After the toast – four cops come in and arrest Les. But seriously – the recent episodes have been fairly interesting. I will settle for answers to 50% of the plot mysteries. If we get no answers – we will stop wondering and be less entertained. All very much like strip tease (Tiff & Gunther need to go hiking again).

Don`t get the major Les hate in comments. So being clueless is an excuse to mooch on the bill (DeGroots), as well as taking expensive gifts. Noo, no girl would ever lead on some poor schmuck for personal gain.

First of all the Garoots were invited bu Pru. Assuming the dinner will be paid for. 2nd No one has yet asked how much monies in the Children’s’ theater fund , so no one knows how much Les stole. 3rd Yes Pru must be a lot older, but maybe Les thinks she has a lot of $$$ and that’s what he is after. Well you do have to spend some to get some.

I know it’s a comic, but this is terrible. The adults know how much Les earns and how much the bill is. They know that Les didn’t invite them. This makes the adults and Pru out to be a bit thick. In my area there is no way a junior employee would ever be expected to host a meeting when senior management attended. Leaders Eat Last is one of our sayings. That’s basically stating that you, as a leader, take care of your employees.

Frank and Nancy are both looking away when the check arrives. Les probably told the restaurant ahead of time that he would pay the check. Yesterday he told Pru that it was taken care of when she suggested it was an expensive restaurant.

“Luann”, as comics go, is to me something of a “Real Life LITE” scenario. Obviously, in our world there are a lot of beautiful – and ugly – things that can and do happen, daily. Team Evans has assumed the task of distilling all that as best as they see possible and relevant – then display that in comic-strip format. To me, it’s rather apparent that they’ve done it quite successfully (and for what will hopefully continue to be the long haul), hence the strip’s popularity.

    .

And yes, we can all nitpick details ‘til the wee hours, but only so much can be told in three (plus or minus) panels per day. For me personally, I could see in today’s strip where Frank could say right after, “Fine job getting the ball rolling, Les. And here, I’ll take care of that…” (reaching for the check). OR, it’s equally possible that Les does get stuck with the check, as that could be an expression of karma or unspoken justice, since it’s also apparent that Les’ “funds” were “acquired” in ill-gotten fashion. So he can either blow his stack – or blow his bankroll. Either option can happen off-panel, as there’s only so much space to tell this story. So I’m not complainin’.

    .

I see Les being put into the “Accidental Hero” situation here: He’s wanting to express something very positive, being his love for Pru (nope, not happenin’, pal), but he’s still reverting to old (and very negative) habits which likely got him into legal troubles in the first place. He is headed for a crossroads now, and he’ll either “turn to the dark side” for real, or he’ll keep this charade going and, perhaps in absurdist fashion, learn a good lesson (or twelve) in the process and do the right thing.

    .

I’m sometimes a “bettin’ man” – and this may be a long shot – but my money’s on Leslie growing and becoming a better person. This IS the “Luanniverse” after all. Dirk reformed … so can Les.

    .

Now … about that TV … hmmmmmmm. :)

This was a good comical end to this weeks’ storyline , especially the waiter thanking him. And I agree with code the enforcer that Les will mature a bit from this. His expression is more like acceptance of his just desserts instead of anger. (But I’m usually wrong in my predictions)

Nancy’s eyes suggest a ‘wait and see’ attitude. I think she is a little suspicious. I’m sure she and Frank will inform Uncle Al of this new program. Les is stuck….. forced to do ‘good’……. though that’s not what he had in mind. Uncle Al will want to know where the funds raised for the program are.

In bringing Leslie Knox (the meanest, most despised and unpopular student at Pitt) back into the strip, the Evans’ must have had a plan for him, his reclamation…… we thought………but so far he is unchanged. He needs a visit from the ‘third ghost’ (or maybe all of the ghosts). Perhaps some child in the kids’ theater program will remind him of himself growing up, and working with that child will bring about a change in Les’s attitude. Or will he always be just rotten to the core?
