When Les was first introduced, none of us would have expected him to do anything like put personal integrity over financial gain. I guess there’s only one irredeemable soul in this world.
Oh goody, because I was hoping there would be a lot of padding added to this story. Hooray for filler strips! (Eye roll)
Come on Evans, let’s get this plot back on track already. There’s literally no reason the guest list handoff had to take more than a day; today’s strip made literally the exact same point as yesterday’s.
Whew. Guess I got my answer from my question yesterday on who Les was gravitating towards. And whew, he gave it to Tiffany. Now, what will Ann do? Try to wrestle the book off Tiffany’s hands? Run? Berate Les for familial disloyalty? (Pot, meet kettle). Or sweetly and evilly talk Tiffany into returning the book? Methinks she will say “FINE! You’ve seen the last of me. I’m leaving this pitiful town. I don’t know why I ever came back.” Tiffany will say, “Oh, it wasn’t my dad?”
Another full week of “padding added to the story.”
Plenty of time for Ann to pull a gun, knife, Taser, pepper spray, or audio recording of Puberty Blues to recover her cash and lists from SSL (Tiffany), and force Les to cooperate.
ANN: Les, frisk her to see if she has a second phone.
LES whispers to TIFF: How many phones do you have on you?
TIFF, in whisper: Four.
LES again whispers: Lets say I only find one.
TIFF, in whisper but forceful reply: Lets say I HAND you one.
….which makes it clear that there will be no horizontal reward for Les’s taking Tiffany’s side.
Yay Les! And I for one don’t expect him to “demand payment” from Tiffany. Ask, sure. But Les has always seen Tiffany as a sexy thing before; now he respects her for being able to stand up to and – potentially – take down his mother, plus he’s had a chance to collaborate with her as an ally. I may be naive (and I am seeing this as a woman rather than as one who has experienced what Les is going through) but I have to believe that his spewing Tiffany as more than a caricature will lead to a more nuanced response from Les.
The “such a good boy” comment is quite insulting, and I agree with the speculation that being treated like a dog, who was good at following directions has all kinds of negative mother-son connotations here, but what really strikes me about this set of panels is how brilliantly they are drawn. Just subtle changes in smiles, eyebrows, eyes (from an angle) and Les’s face show such a range of emotions. Pictures say a thousand words. Will Tiffany get sweet on Les though, as he choose her over his mother? Hmmmm.
The real question is this – even if everyone gets their money back, this is an illegal operation. What prevents Ann from continuing? Even in someplace other than The Fuse? Why haven’t Nancy and Frank (owners) been informed? Now that Tiff has the guest list…so what? How is this operation going to be shut down? This is currently no resolution.
The entire point of this strip seems to be Les is announcing his loyalties. He could have given the list to Dear Old Mom but deliberately chose not to. A little twist of the knife….
I am beginning to think the proper “ending” for Ann will be she walks away from this none the wiser, and then Tiff asks her father to invite his girlfriend to dinner so they can “finally meet each other”
Panel # 2, There’s a good b—", could be Greg’s sneaky way of hinting, “good bye” to this arc before it becomes tedious. The character connections have become so complicated that we need a chart to figure them out. Let the dust settle for a bit.
OK, so Les is learning towards giving the list to Tiff (she doesn’t have it yet, but it sure looks that way). I think this is the right move for him. Remember, his uncle Al Gray is a partner in The Fuse, and could see Les’ actions as him trying to protect his interests and investment in The Fuse. Al might want to reward Les by covering the remainder of his restitution. Perhaps, Les knows this. Hopefully, he does. If I’m not mistaken Al doesn’t have the best feelings towards Ann, either, so maybe this will work out.
That said, Tiff has to get out of the Fuse with the list and get it to someone who can do something about it. Hopefully, Ann doesn’t try to take it from her by force. I wouldn’t want to see a cat fight between the two.
As for the arc continuing, I get the feeling that it may skip a week or so before we pick it up again, but we’ll see. They might want to keep us hanging for just a little longer… :)
Tiffany can cause damage to Ann with or without the guest list. But w/the guest list, she could notify each one and then they could act as group and that would be more effective.
After Tiff pulls off her big plan – Mr. Farrell might apply his good lawyers to rescue Ann. Tiffany would be frustrated and would have to face her personal motivation.

“That’s a good boy” is usually followed by a dog biscuit.

Gee. Les gave the list to Tiffany. What a surprise! (Rolls Eyes)
I mean Les only had to weight his HATRED for his Mother Against his LUST for Tiffany. It must have been a “tough” Decision. (Rolls Eyes, Again)
Of course Ann referring to Les as “Good Boy,” didn’t help, either.
I mean what is he? Her “son” or her “dog?”

Careful Tiffany. There’s a price that goes along with that guest list which you may not want to pay.
