Maybe not the same Jack. Or – maybe not everybody models nude. I mean – Zebo could have Jack in a diaper hatching out of a giant egg…

Luann will get to see just how long those longer poses are.

Haha. At least she doesn’t have to date him – she already knows what he looks like naked. Not sure if that will turn her off to the possibility of dating Jack or increases his appeal.

Jack is appearing to be less narcissistic after all, after having answered Luann’s question about missing him versus the art class, with “why would you miss the art class?” If he’s one of the models, it implies he doesn’t think the class is worth missing even with him in it. Perhaps a bit of humility?

I’m guessing part of Luann’s litany, as paced the floor the other day, was “What if the model is a guy?” The model being both a male and someone she not only knows, but has gone out with, is probably her second-worst nightmare.

“Hi Jack. Nice….uh…muscles.”

Of course, it’s not the first time Luann has seen a nude male. Remember the time she walked in on Gunther when he was changing?

Luann – make sure you do not break the lead off Jack’s pencil.

I disagree that Nil knew Jock Jack would be the model. What, he’s trying to help his friend get Luann’s attention by posing naked? Trying to “set them up” that way would be irredeemably obnoxious. That doesn’t describe Nil.

And Luann is now stammering the immortal words of Calvin… “I think my cerebellum just fused.”

I hope Jack doesn’t get ‘too excited’ to see Luann.

Maybe Jack will pose as “The Thinker” and spare her.

Stay strong Luann maybe Jack trying to help you are say he loves you.

Well, what a way to see her first possible naked boyfriend. The closest before was Quill in that theater room, but I never believed they got past 2nd base. How will our girl react? How will Jack react? We know he really likes Luann. I think they are meant to be a couple eventually, but we see. Take Luannverse bets? They have to be like loooong, you know how Greg is guys.

So Zebo went with the beefcake next. It makes sense. The class already had pose opportunities with Tara. Now they are given anatomy lessons with Mr. Muscles. You go, Jack!

P.S. I hope Luann doesn’t pass out.

Seriously?!?!?? Is there ANYONE who did not see this coming? How disappointing. Seems to be an attempt at creating some higher “interest” in the arc; but for me it did the exact reverse. How inane!

I think all of Luann’s attempts will be abstract.

My guess is: He is in a costume of some sort. Roman Centurion maybe?

RUNTY GATE induced me to go back and review the naked Gunther incident. The arc ran for two weeks starting 21 June 2010. But the strip on the 24th was interesting. It may have hinted that Gunther’s was particularly endowed in a certain appendage. This gives rise to an interesting alternate universe for tomorrow’s strip.

I’m pretty sure that “Jack” is “Jack the Jock;” as we all think it is. BUT! (no pun) What if “Jack” is a pseudonym used by Gunther for anonymity at a school he is not attending. That would make Luann’s reaction in panel three interesting on several levels. Plus, it would give hope to some commenters for a Gunther-Luann relationship. Fun to imagine a Gunther-Luann meeting later, after the class, and how it would go as compared with the 2nd week of the 2010 arc.

The 2010 strip and Nil’s recent naked exposition also give a strong hint about just how “naked” the model (whoever it is) will be in ensuing strips.

@TYGE: I’m not a long time reader of this ‘toon, but I’ve not gotten the impression so far that Gunther would use the word ‘Yo!’ to say ‘hello’ to a bunch of folks. And given his level of embarrassment just at being kissed by Rosa (he apparently feels he must initiate anything and reacts poorly if someone moves on him), I can’t honestly imagine him posing nude for an art class anywhere…

Come on Luann… learn how to detach yourself (from yourself); I liked Z’s comment yesterday about ‘rendering the nude figure’. He spoke with complete detachment, i,e, as an artist who has learned to focus soley on the task of sketching (accurately and with good technique) the model figure, totally disengaged from all that might be emotional or sexual; same skills that a doctor has to learn when examining a patient.

So, with Jack being the model… we are to presume that it is “Jock” Jack, but there is a small chance it could be a different Jack. But, I suspect there is a 90+ % chance it is Jack of bowling ball fame.

With it likely being her friend, Jack…. NOW Luann does have logical reasons to feel nervous and unsettled.

It is very easy to understand anyone potentially feeling a bit gunshy about seeing someone they may be considering dating to be naked at that stage of the relationship.

Now… does Luann NEED to feel this way? No. She could very easily view the situation as if Jack were any other model.

But, apparently Luann is not quite that “able” yet….. and given YESTERDAY, she was not overly fond of seeing “any other model” either.

To me, this is disappointing because I was hoping that Luann would have the opportunity to just deal with whatever internal demons she has that worry her about the issue of nudes and nude modeling, and just concentrate on sketching. The fact that the model will apparently be someone she knows makes that less likely. And I have the same right to express that opinion as the Luann haters have to express theirs.

It looks like Jack and his one-eyed buddy set Luann up for this.

I’m hoping that Nil is next to Luann, that he recognizes her problem and offers advice on staying focused. I would imagine that at the very beginning of the class Prof. Z might have lectured the students on the importance of viewing the models for what they are and in an emotionally detached way in order to stay on task. Luann would have missed this.

This is the sort of comical irony that makes Luann’s life so laughably miserable. Next time Jack tries to hit on her, she will not be able to unsee the visuals….

I think that Greg is a bigger tease than Tiffany, so all of our guesses will not be worth the cyber space they get lost in.

Despite being comfortable in very little bikinis she still has nudity issues. Which I would say many Americans do unlike Canadians, San Franciscans and Europeans. Lucky Devils.
