Well, Les actually has some cred now. He works for Luann’s parents now, and he lives with Gunther. Do Frank and Nancy even know about Jack yet?
A few years ago on Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me, the celebrity guest was a vet who had his own show. This week’s comics reminded me of him because someone suggested his career change. Believe it or not, that person who told the future vet to get a real career was Keith Richards. The vet with his own show used to be a Roadie for the Rolling Stones.
I guess the next time we see Jack will be at the dog park after he has graduated from vet school. Lu will be married to Hector Dingle from Peoria and have a couple of kids.
This arc has elicited a dearth of comments; even for a Saturday. This seems so much like the Fay arcs. Seemingly GnK’s way of plugging in a respite from the more dramatic goings on.
For being as on in years as he is, Puddles is certainly showing signs of renewed energy lately. If hope springs eternal for him, maybe it also will for those around him.
It’s a sign of progress that a male Luann likes can be liked as a friend. In college one of the great things is that you meet a lot of “new” friends, many who are friends for life. If there is more to come that will develop, but for me, and others who debated on romance, lets accept our shade happily, and be thankful for this nice lesson in life. Good job Evanses, although if you could call that “community college” a public "community college, and not a junior college that would be GREAT!!
Everyone’s talking about Jack’s career choices. But what about Luann’s?
1) This week has indicated that She’s make a fairly decent COUNSELOR. Better than MRS Fogarty, anyway.
2) Luann has proven to be good with kids, so she’d be a Great K-12 TEACHER.
3) Luann would be a Good FASHION MODEL. She drove the Guys in Gunther’s Engineering Class WILD when She modeled that bride’s maid dress a few years back.
4) Luann, along with Quill, once “brought the house down,” during the Production of “Westside Story,” back in high school. So, She’d be a Great ACTRESS and SINGER. (And We won’t hold Her rendition of ‘Hey Boy’ against Her)
The Sky is just as much the Limit for Luann as it is for Jack at this point, career-wise. And Good for Luann for talking to, and Helping a New Friend and NOT letting His Earlier Bumbling Missteps, get in the Way.
PS: Oh and with 2)? The one of the reasons WHY Luann is so Good with Kid’s is because this Guy named Gunther once HELPED Her overcome Her Shyness around them.
Has it ever occurred to Luann that Jack just might be what she needs? What good has going after the campus hunk ever gotten her? She’s as superficial as some guys. So he’s not perfect. Neither is she. Aaron and Quill certainly weren’t. No one is.
Concerning today’s remarks: at certain times in our lives, people will come in who make a difference. It doesn’t have to be dramatic. Sometimes, it’s just a small gesture, like what Luann has done for Jack. This small gesture can make all the difference for him. The best things in life, I’ve found, don’t always have to be big, dramatic occurrences. Sometimes, it’s the smallest things that bring pleasure and that matter. As for whether Luann and Jack will remain friends or grow into something more, well, at this point, I don’t think that really matters. What matters is that, thanks to Luann, Jack’s road ahead has become clear.
Not exactly the time and place for a romantic liaison. The park setting brings to mind a movie titled, “Splendor in the Grass”. But, here with all the dogs running around, who knows what surprises the grass could hold?
I guess we won’t get to see Puddles land on Max. Having interests and direction in life IS a great feeling. Jack has become a much more interesting character. I look forward to following him in his classes and career prep.
@KEN HENSE: I don’t understand why you can only think in one dimension about Luann. The character does get involved with guys as friends, not just as dates. When she was in high school and obsessed with finding a boyfriend, everyone complained. Now that she isn’t, everyone seems obsessed with seeing her only as hunting for a boyfriend. Sometimes it seems the characters here have more dimensions than those who post here…
@SEISMIC: You and Ken Hense must be some kind of reverse mirror twins. Ken Hense is obsessed with Luann pairing off with Jack, although we’ve seen little indication that either of the characters are interested in that. And you still see Luann as high school Luann, who only thinks about a boyfriend. I have to wonder if either of you are actually reading the current version of this ‘toon. Maybe you’re actually reading ‘Luann Againn’ and then posting here…
I’m enjoying that Jack gets smarter, trimmer, and less dumb-looking every day. Such an interesting transition! Sometimes life is like that, come to think of it.
This may not be a popular or obvious choice but I think Jack would be great for Luann. I think they balance each other out, plus the odd couple shenanigans would be great fodder for the strip.

So, friends it is. About as good an ending as could be expected.

Jack is perked up, Puddles is perked up, Luann has her legs crossed, and Max(ie) is pretending to be asleep. Heavy on the friendzoning today…

Crossed legs mean disinterest in a potential romance? How droll. That is such a psychobabble.

BANG! There it is. Jack is relegated to big brother-ville!
But WAIT! Is Piddles jumping Max’s bones a metaphor for the future of this relationship???
Tune in this September… or next year… maybe…

I’d really rather see Jack as relationship material, He doesn’t seem to have “issues” like all of Luann’s other guys.
