Poor Frank. The guy meant well, but he’s at the mercy of two lovely ladies that believe in SHOPPING!

If it’s any consolation to ya Frank, I believe and SWEAR by gift cards. SOME of Us, just love getting them.

Especially Starbucks Gift Cards. (HINT, HINT, HINT)

I don’t mind gift cards! And I’ll gladly take Luann, Nancy, or anyone else’s rejects!

Gift cards can buy you anything! A gift is bought you are stuck with it. A gift card can get you what u want. Well done, Frank!

Between gift cards & the liquor store I can knock out half my shopping!

General rule is, “It’s the thought that counts.” …………. So tell me, how much thought does a gift card require? Think about that next time you shop for someone.

Judging by the reaction Frank, I don’t think it’s really much of a surprise.

With my adult kids, I either let them charge what they want—-or I write them a generous check. It seems to go over well…

I have to say, Greg’s drawing has only gotten better with age. Must have put in new lights at that senior center day care place.

Gift cards, while convenient, are the lazy gift; IMO. To me a gift card says “i’m too lazy to look for a special gift for you. I didn’t feel like spending the time and effort to find that gift that says ’ i know what you like and what you’d want.” A gift card says “here, you buy what you want.”

My mom sold Avon for years and so for years we would all get a variety of Avon products from her which always included a soap-on-a-rope for all the males in the family and was a family joke. When my grandson was born, among the things my mom sent for her great grandson was tiny a soap-on-a rope for babies. When my daughter saw it she said, “Aaww, his first soap-on-a-rope!”

Poor Frank can’t win for losing.

Check the expressions in panel #2. If Nancy and Luann were any more thrilled and excited about Frank’s offering, he’d be facing a firing squad.

It’s the thoughtful, loving gift that says, “Get whatever you want at Amazon.”

C’mon ladies! ’Tis the season to be merry!

Look at it this way! It saves you a step: Now you don’t have to wait in line at customer service to exchange the gift he bought that you didn’t like!

As the father of an adult son, I learned years ago that getting a gift card (or better still, a Visa/Mastercard gift card) is the easiest, most practical gift I can give.

I do still buy him things I think he might enjoy, tho.

Come on Frank! All it take is a little awareness and observation. If my wife goes back to look at something twice and still walks away, she gets if for the nearest gift. (Within reason.)

The surprise alone is worth the extra effort and the reward is returned the very night. (Or in the wee hours.) ;o)

A gift card says, “I care enough to give you exactly what you want/need even if I don’t exactly know what it is.” It is the ultimate in thoughtfulness.

OK, i’ll admit it I like “generic or semi-generic gift cards” (VISA or Amazon). Add them together they total over $100. Then, I can buy the expensive gift I really want.

I once sent my Vegan sister-in-law’s family an Omaha Steaks giftbox. We never really got along anyway …. My brother-in law enjoyed it immensely!

Oh and Luann, remember that $569.95 catalytic converter and oxygen sensor you needed, that you said you would pay back? Well you don’t have to. Your welcome. But Dad is still an idiot….

Oh, um Nancy, that negligee I bought for you last month, which is really a present for me ( HINT HINT ), also had a related pair off tickets in the same envelope to……how do you like me now?

Actually people like gift cards or cash, a very libertarian idea. I sympathize with Frank.

Actually, with everyone’s different tastes. That’s the best gift to give.

Gift cards seem so impersonal. But I guess it’s better than some crappy gift you hate and have to pretend to love in order to be polite.

Actually, gift cards do represent the ‘heart’ of the season today. Dispassionate and devoid of thought…

It’s practical, but it’s sad.

looks like we have to go through a week of christmas and holiday arc before we can get back to the interesting stuff. Maybe Luann will bring up the TA opportunity at dinner and receive good advice from her family as opposed to the negative sarcastic vibes coming from Tara.

He should have at least been smart enough to get some boxes to put the cards in.

Not a surprise unless they are very generous gift cards.

The way to keep the Surprise is to get an inexpensive but thoughtful gift that the person will Like and conceal the Gift Card inside it.

Okay, so Frank is playing it safe. Can’t blame the guy, really. So, lighten up, ladies….

One year decades ago, no matter how small in size the gift, I obtained several VERY LARGE console television cartons, and everyone’s gifts were packed and wrapped in them. Those cartons were all about 2 1/2’ X 3 1/2’ X 6’. Thankfully, they did not weigh much. For my Mom on a subsequent Mother’s Day, one of those large wrapped cartons showed up from me again. This time, it had a long, dark Mediterranean style Panasonic/Quasar television console in it for her.

I actually prefer gift cards instead of having to return clothes that don’t fit or aren’t my style
