Earlier this week, someone asked about Tiffany ‘s reaction to Bets at the Fuse. From this episode, it’s pretty clear that the two have not met.

And while we’re at it, a real case of helmet hair!

Since Greg is beginning to tie Bets into other characters, safe to say she’s a potential new regular? ✨❤️✨

I’m starting to wonder how Tiff is going to react now…

Tiff’s thinking, “What kind of a name is Bets?? Short for Betsy? Betty? Bethany? Or is that an immigrant name? Like Rashad, Mohammed, Veronique, Isilia?” I am wondering myself, especially that her skin color has dramatically lightened. I am thinking the colorist was corrected on her ethnicity and he is gradually lightening her skin tone to a sun-kissed color. Or is it just a creative license on part of GnK? Because Nil’s name is normally spelled Nils or Niall. Bets could be just a creative diminutive of Elizabeth. Bets’s name could be a clue that she is temporary or a cameo character because the permanent characters tend to have more familiar names such as Jack, Tara, Les, …the cameos are Ox, Piro, Nil, Pru, Dez…and Bets?

And the plot thickens.

Tiff you missed out on a good thing with Gunther.

He probably needs to leave Bets out of it and present it as his own idea. If course, I didn’t learn that until many years older. Now he looks controlled.

I laughed out loud at the third frame. So much that Tiffany doesn’t know at this point: (1) Gunth has a girl friend (who looks at home in Gunther’s kitchen); (2) Going forward, Tiff may not be able to call on Gunther as needed; (3) Selling Tiffany’s stuff costs money and everything doesn’t just happen by itself. We’ll see if Tiff figures out that it’s in her best interest to get along with Bets.

Speaking of cat fights, I’d like to see Bets kick Leslie the heck out of there. I bet she could tie him in a knot.

Why would Gunther take Bets back to his place with Leslie possibly creeping around?

And Gunther? Be SURE to tell Tiff about that “50%” thing, and how THAT too, is Bets’ Idea. That should have Tiffany good and STEAMED by the time she shows up at the Gulag.

And of Course, (GAG) Loudmouth Les dropping IN and RUINING Everything in 3…., 2…..,1……!

And If ya’ll think Al was “upset” about all the noise coming the Gulag last year, just wait until all the Yelling and SCREAMING begins! ;)

I think Bets will be good for Gunther. I just wonder how Tiff is going to take it and how Les will figure in?

Gunther, what are you doing?!

Just tell Tiffany to bring her things over because it would be more convenient for you. You don’t owe her anymore explanation than that. This will show her that you’re not this pushover she expects.Then when she arrives, you can introduce Bets as your ‘Friend’ (Tiff will get the hint) and how she offered to help out.

Like I had said, Tiff didn’t expect Gunth to be seriously seeing someone. I still hope someday they will hook up. But if Bets is it for Gunth, so be it. However nothing is written in stone yet for any of them. Except Brad and Toni and maybe Crystal and Knute.

Gunther didn’t tell Tiffany about Bets … it’s understandable, but still weird… And the place is Gunther’s (and LES) place… This is open to all possibilities. It can be the beginning of a great friendship between Bets and Tiffany or the beginning of a big problem. Maybe this will be Tiffany’s time to become overprotective about Gunther, trying to made he see how much Bets controls him?

I quit this strip not long along ago. It had become a bore and other reasons. Was in a restaurant and Luann was one of the strips in the newspaper with the current Bets saga. Went back to catch up and then to follow the current story line. Good job, Greg! I couldn’t care less about her name, skin color, or back ground. I think she genuinely cares fore Gunther and has his back. It wouldn’t surprise me if they got married (happily ever after), moved away from the strip. Gunther has always been a fall guy in the strip, but I’ve always liked the character.

Why is Tiff acting like she doesn’t know who Bets is? She was there when they first met.

I think We’ve missed an important milestone here. THIS is Bets first visit to the Gulag!(And NO, when Bets dated Les, it never got that far)

So far, Bets is the third young woman to actually enter into the pit if doom behind Tiffany and Luann. And Bets seems to be making herself at home in Panel two!

So, how long will it be before the lovely couple make their way to Gunny’s bedroom where Bets finally has him helpless behind closed doors? Will Tiffany show up in time to “interrupt” something important and thereby create another milestone? The first time TWO young women have been IN the Gulag at the SAME Time?

And how LONG will the Happy, Scrappy Threesome have to themselves before (GAG) Les rears his hideous head?

Don’t go anywhere dear friends. For what’s coming up is the comic strip equivalent of the moon landing! “One small step for Tiff, one giant leap for Bets, one pain in the neck for Gunther, and one leaping lizard named Les!”

Hope this comment makes it on GoComics. I think the camping arc is going to be a couple weeks hence. Maybe after they come back, or later. In Luannverse time Tiffany has her working and whole change in circumstances to focus on so it makes sense she is not in that gaggle. One suggested prediction (there is a universe possible) is that Bets and Gunther working as a team will help inspire Tiffany to operate an ethical and successful version of the that Parision company Souffle? over the internet. That is as very millennial gig economy type thing, and Post-Millennial, Gen Z type thing anyway. We’ll see. I don’t think there will be a battle royal between Bets and Tiffany for Gunther’s affections, although Tiffany is drawn really purty in that last panel. Hmmmm.

I totally forgot Tiff wasn’t at the Fuze and doesn’t know about Bets. Wonder if this will be a water and oil situation or will Bets be able to really help Tiff with her “business plans”. Thinking Gunther will be lost in the middle.

Bets is taking control of the situation to level the playing field and look out for Gunther’s interests, as well as her own, regarding Miss Tiffany. Hopefully she will ask his opinions more and take his advice as the shoot progresses. Tiffany is going to HATE Bets on sight!!!!

Excuse me, but wasn’t Bets a black woman on her first date with Gunther ? Oh wait, she was in a Star Trek costume, so maybe she was wearing blackface in some lame attempt to be Uhuru ? So which is it ? Did a black girl have to turn white to be acceptable for LuAnn fans or what ?

Tiffany deserves someone completely new. Gunther got Bets. Perhaps Tiffany will get Doug.

Gunther was one of the few things in Tiffany’s world that she could count on. He’s the only person that she could really open up to about her insecurities. And of course the relationship that she should be able to count on – her relationship with her father – is being blown to smithereens as her father falls under Ann Eiffel’s spell.

There’s also the fact that some part of Tiffany probably saw her as an alpha female encounters life: she whistled, he came running! Now he’s about to introduce her to someone who is clearly taking over that role.

Will Tiffany see Bets as a major threat to what little stability remains in her world? Will Betts see Tiffany as a potential competitor who needs to be neutralized? It certainly seems like we are being set up for a battle royal here!

Of course those of us on the outside looking see the possibility of Bets helping Tiffany realize her mogul dreams… and there is the possibility that Tiffany will see that too. But what about Bets? Will she see helping Tiffany as a possible win-win situation, or will she react to Tiffany primarily as a threat?

So the question seems to be “Is Bets controlling G-man and, if so, how?” Like Irma did with G-man? Like Ann is doing with Tiffany? Or like Ann is doing with Tom?

Prediction: We won’t get the skin tone answered Monday. Panel 4 is a “cliff hanger” and Greg’ll be off somewhere else Monday. Grrrr! :oP

Just a thought… What would really complicate things is for Tiff to realize that she isn’t ready to give up on G-man BUT it turns out that Bets runs a (gasp) style salon. YIKES!!!

Ya think Gn’K could handle an arc like that???

Has anyone considered that Bets might decide to do a little lingerie modeling for Gun along the way ????

Comments about Bets and Les (above) make me think of one more thing. Especially next week, when Bets returns to black, a direction this thread would go in real life, but I don’t really see G&K going. And I hope I don’t offend by bringing it up:

Someone, somewhere, in Gunther ’s orbit of friends (if he has any) would bring up the race card, and likely do so in a most unflattering manner. This would be especially true with a creep like Les, regardless of whether he had dated her or not.

It’s an unpleasant reality. But the Luann-verse is anything but reality, and G&K are not under any obligation to go in that direction.

I sure hope that the stuff they try to sell on eBay is not the Ann Eiffel bootleg undies that are illegal. If they get caught, Tiffany and Gunther could get into a whole lot of trouble.

I’m sorry, but I don’t see that Gunt and Tiff are such good, close friends. Yes, he’s been there for her on several occasions, but what has she ever done for him except let him know he’s a poor second to her “good friend” Les? If someone treated me the way Tiff used to—-and sometimes still does——treat Gunt I wouldn’t call them a close friend, no matter how long I’d known them. And I certainly wouldn’t agree to enter into a business venture where I did all the work, and my “friend” got all the profits.

She put him on hold to take a phone call from Les. She scheduled two dates in one night, and told Gunt she would only spend two hours with him, the rest of the evening she was saving for Les. Then she stormed out (and I’m not going to get into whether she was justified or not) and, as far as we know, hasn’t spoken to Gunthie since. But now she needs something done, and she needs someone with tech savvy to do it. So she calls Gunthie, says “Come,” and like a well trained lap dog, he drops everything and rushes to do her bidding. Or he would have if Bets hadn’t intervened.

If Tiff’s going to be a mogul, one of the first things she has to learn is that she has to pay her employees, even the outside contractors. And that’s what Gunthie is at this point, especially since she expects him to do all the work. I don’t think 50% is too much for that. If Tiff agrees to cover all Ebay and Paypal fees, the shipping materials and shipping costs, AND to monitor and maintain her own Ebay account——then yeah Gunthie should settle for 25 or even 20%. Gunthie needs to learn that his time and expertise are worth something. If he wants to give his “friend” a break in price, OK, but he shouldn’t be expected—-or willing—-to run the business for free.

Did Bets meet Ann via Less? Could Bets and Ann be in cahoots to destroy Tiffany’s plan for independence? It seems odd that Bets would know Less and be as ruthless as Ann when it comes to helping friends, after all, Ann did have her own son in court for a credit debt… and I wonder if she had him do something sneaky got caught and blamed it on him… I’d like the full back story on why Less owed Ann money and why she and her brother don’t seem to be on good terms

The potential is there for Bets and Tiffany to become very good friends. Bets has something Tiffany needs – business sense.

Every relationship’s success depends on the dynamics of the people involved. Gunther has mostly been passive and Bets appears to not shy away from being a leader.

My guess on Bets’s full first name is either Beatrice or Betsy.

Tiffany isn’t going to make as much paying Gunther, Bets, and eBay, so she should strive for independence by doing things herself. She can borrow Gunther’s mannequin but otherwise leave him out of it. Independence and maturity go hand in hand.

Has Numbnutz met Bets yet? I forget.

I think Tiffany was hoping to “sweet talk” Gunther into doing the whole job for nothing. Thank goodness for Bets because the amount of work involved (if you think about it) is significant.

Folks say that Tiff knows about Bets. Does anyone know the date of that episode?

When Tiff sees Gunther and Bets in their matching tech oriented T shirts, she may sense the severity of the competition as well as hurdles that lie ahead.

Hmm…Tiff is jealous? She almost slept with Les, why is she jealous.

Hmm. Tiff’s radar is up on Bets. This could bode ill for the smooth operation of the lingerie photo session and sale….

Gunther, open your eyes dude. You have another very attractive woman in your bachelor pad and she wants to help you with lingerie. It’s noble that you want to be this chivalrous guy but you need to come out of your shell before another girl gets frustrated with you and leaves.

Has gunther ever had a thought of his own? His mother ruled his life until rosa dragged him to peru, he has always been at the beck and call of luann, tiffany and bernice at one time or another …. now this broad is stepping in and taking charge. She sees that he is a doormat for his friends, so she is going to… what? “Protect” him? Same song, different verse. Gunther is a mama’s boy, and any mama willing to put up with his tantrums will do, so far as he’s concerned.

Artist’s intention? Tiff, up front and colorful, dominates the frame and looks sexy. Bets. drab and almost insignificant, occupying a small area in the rear of the panel.

Anyone else kind of grossed out by the thought of second hand lingerie? I frequent thrift stores and probably 75% of my wardrobe consists of previously owned clothing. . .but lingerie and bathing suits? Yuck.

I think Bets is what the Gun needs. Down the road the real gun will come out(of pants) and Bets will see what kind of man he is.

He shouldn’t be says Bets says this and Bets says that. He should speak for himself.
