Dez, you sure you’re in the right place? The place looks vacant – not a campground but unpopulated by any human. You did say the camp is sponsored so there should be other people around. And Luann – surprise! No modern conveniences up there.
See? Dez is at home. She’s happier than a tornado in a trailer park. But Luann and dez, they’d be happier camping out in a pop-tent outside a store waiting for black friday sales.
Ruh-Ohhhh! Don’tcha think that it might have been a good idea if the girls had met up with the guys somewhere in town, or even the local Walmart parking lot, and maybe, just maybe, they could have driven to Camp Wilderness together? Instead of having, say, crucial items with the guys, and unfortunate things could happen (guys get a flat tire, car trouble or they’re lost) and all of them are in an area with no cell reception? So, that would mean the girls wouldn’t have any tents, nor a stove at all?
What we have here is a massive failure to communicate… or plan. I hate to find myself saying this, but I hope the boys have thought to bring food and will save the day.
This is hilarious, and people are being judgmental again. Guess I will just wait and see what happens. I mean Jack and Nil will arrive and I bet they won’t starve. You all forget high school. Ugh. You remember College, you really remember college? You survived it and graduated? Well this is that. Enjoy.
Okay. We get the point. Three very different ideas about what ‘camping’ means. Luann expected a provisions store. Bernice expects someone sitting around with rules and regulations. Dez expects total freedom. Just can’t wait till they start catching bugs to eat…
Oh dear, and reality is about begin in earnest. This will either be the end of a beautiful friendship or the experience will strengthen the bonds of a lifelong friendship. Let’s hope that the boys will bring some food as well as the tent and cooking equipment.
This already looks Awesome. Dez runs happy, free, wild and beautiful♡! Luann and Bernice will have a rude awakening. Probably Luann will be able to adapt at the situation and enjoy the camping, especially if Jack will be with her. Bernice, on the other hand ….
In three months, all this strip will be is three piles of bones bleaching in the Sun. Luann can’t feed herself, Bernie can’t function without a chain of command and Nature Girl Dez will fall down a cliff and break her neck. Jack to the rescue?
Looking up “wilderness/primitive camping” sure isn’t what it was way, way, way back when I was young (in my teens). Back then, we went camping with a knapsack containing some canned goods (like pork & beans), a couple of blankets some fishing string and hooks, a 22 rifle strapped to the back (shoot small game for meat), a hunting knife and a hand axe hanging on our side for making a lean-to. We would hitch-hike to where we wanted to go and people picked us up without a problem. Of course, today, they would probably run you over or call the police. And yes, bears did do their duty in the woods (or wherever they pleased) and you could hear a tree fall. :)
Lovely. So they’re in the wilderness without any provisions or equipment? Hope they make it back to safety soon, or we’ll need a new title character for the strip. :D
I used to go camping with my cousins in my uncle’s living room by putting blankets over chairs and tables. Camping sure had changed a lot by the time I joined the Boy Scouts.
“Mother Nature”? Unless she’s prepared to eat like the Bears, Wolves, and Foxes eat, that ain’t happening. After one night in the woods, and they’ll be clambering back to modern man civilization in no time flat.
Ok, Here is my question. if only one of them knew where they where camping, does that mean Jack doesn’t? I guess we can only assume this information was passed on to Jack and Jack knows where they need to go? because I am seeing things getting worse and worse here if no one informed jack where they were meeting up. also, Camping store? Like REI?
Quite a few folks are complaining about women/girls being “clueless.” Luann, Bernice and Dez are not clueless girls/women. They just play ones in the comic strips. ;o)
Primitive camping is awesome, long as you come with plenty of food & water, and have at minimum a tent, sleeping bag, mat, flashlight, toilet paper, and a little shovel or trowel to bury your, um.. organic waste. Very bad move on Dez’s part not to inform them in advance, so that they came unprepared.
I’ll betcha they’re here. It’s fairly close to San Diego, free primitive camping in the California desert. Mountains in the distance and many rocks at the campground. It’s a guess…
It doesn’t look like there’s water nearby. Did they bring any? Hopefully Jack and Nil will show up soon with the necessities that these three didn’t think to bring.
My camper and I have traveled to some incredibly scenic places (Catalina State Park, Mormon Lake, Tortilla Campground and Picacho Peak State Park to name a few) and gotta say, there has always been some type of store close by. Too old for the real roughing it thing anymore.
Without looking back to the original conversations, I can’t be sure. But I don’t remember that Des ever said anything about a “campground.” She said they were going “camping.” The others assume it’s a campground. Again, I might be mistaken, but that’s my take. If anyone here knows differently, I apologize and welcome a correction. At any rate, I learned long ago to pay very close attention to what people actually SAY, not what I assume they mean. Not that I’m perfect at it, LOL!

Enjoy yourselves, Luann and Bernice. (Of the times I’ve been camping, I don’t recall there being a camp store which had food… just at times firewood.)

1) In swoops Jack and Nils. Shining knights to save the day.
2) Dez takes charge. Makes a shelter from rocks, moss and buffalo dung. Starts fire with mystical incantation.
3) Doug (remember Doug?) happens to roll up in his 45’ Newmar King Aire motor home. Luxury ensues.
4) They turn around and go home. Watch the fireworks at Pittsville stadium.
