I dunno, Tara. So far, Luann’s struggled with actually activating her imagination. She got flummoxed by having “family” and “sad” as her short fiction prompt so badly she had to request a do-over (and those are two words with endless potential to use to craft a story). Then when she was working on her writing, she’d ask Tara to help her come up with the most minor of details or story ideas. After all that, her story wasn’t really fictional… she just wrote about how hilarious it was that she kept electrocuting herself with a broken electric razor.
That being said, I do want to see Luann actually manage to get and master at least one skill besides “haver-of-a-messy-room;” so here’s hoping Mrs. Horner can help Luann become better at writing.
I think it would be cool if Luann came up with something that combined her elements of the careers she wanted to dabble in in the past. Her coming up with an educational cartoon for kids would combine her teaching career with acting and singing. She could even make it about a dog named after Puddles and make it sort of like Blues Clues or Bluey or something.
I think Tara was more referring to Luann’s overactive delusion that Piro is interested in her so she is pursuing that than the literal question Mrs Horner was asking.
Luann has a high opinion of herself when she desires to rescue someone who is very needy. Maybe Luann should be a superhero character? Bernice can be a sidekick? Mrs Horner once predicted that Gunther was Luann’s true ❤️?
Tara has a much more active imagination than Luann. Luann showed imagination when she thought how she could house her pony in her bedroom, and that is about as good as it got. Tara can think up new ideas and put them immediately to paper. Her thoughts flow like a river. Luann writes about her experiences. Let’s see her write about her fantasies.
Well, here we are with a sight-gag that is predictable, obvious, and truly classic — but nonetheless funny for all that. We know that Tara is just about as guilty as Luann in the imagination/delusion department. But Tara does better at unleashing her imagination into words on a page. Luann suffers from lack of self-esteem, which inhibits her from valuing her vision enough to translate it into concrete form on the proverbial page where she must risk that others may see and judge it and her. So, are we the readers condemned forever to sit back and bewail Luann’s shortcomings? Or may we hope that she may be enabled by her writers to grow beyond this adolescent conflict toward further successes? Is there hope for Luann — or any of her friends? Brad & Tony seem to have achieved a measure of maturity and respect. Can this soap-opera do better than to drag along indefinitely for the other characters? Let them grow up and succeed. Let the title character Luann become ultimately a wise adult advisor even unto a third generation of grandchildren. Bring on new characters among the children of the originals. That’s an unending supply of drama and humor and many sticky situations. C’mon, Evanses, find your internal Luann and let her overactive imagination inspire you and your readers!
Interesting to see that for Tara it’s Luann’s imagination, and not hers, that’s overactive. Tara, who writes a lot, moving from one literary genre to another without problems, considers herself less imaginative than Luann. I don’t think she’s insulting Luann by saying she lives in a fantasy world, I think Tara knows Luann more than Luann herself and sees her great potential as a writer. That’s why I think she’s a great friend to Luann and a good influence to her, because she thinks so highly of her and always tries to help her unleash her potential from the low self-esteem that’s holding her back. I love this friendship.
‘Overactive’ is definitely me. Or is it normal/sane to be reworking and editing the last book in the series and already have three short stories and a spinoff already screaming to be started in your head?
Not gonna lie: My best friend of 20 years had a question like that and he did that to me. Wanted to deck him for that, but we both laughed after class about it.
Oh. So now Luann imagines she has an imagination. What happened to her terminal writer’s block? “I’ve got nothing” has been her catch phrase in the past.
This class is being conducted like a kindergarten. Time for Mrs. Horner to take a hike and bring in an instructor who actually teaches adults.
Overactive imagination? Then why can’t she write a story that isn’t a transcription of an event in her (or someone she knows) life? Doesn’t an imagination involve you making things up in your head?
She thought going on the subway all by herself, getting carded at a bar, and going to bed at 10:30 while she was in New York made her into a mature adult and she thought Quill was who wasn’t ready for a mature relationship. Luann certainly does an overactive imagination
All kinds of silly sorrow for Luann over Tara’s silly, but true tease about Luann. Luann has a very active imagination, especially romanatically (not just boys actually, but the whole idea of romance) but she is woefully unhaready for romance. In terms of writing abilty, well the Luannverse jury hasn’t even been seated yet.
