You are setting yourself up to replace your 80 year old professor who will be pushing 90 when you finish your PhD

As long as he can say “Welcome to Walmart”, he’ll never be unemployed.

There are lots of those degree types out there. Appears that those who choose them almost never check the ‘marketplace’ for careers that require them. Many complete double majors with at least one as a practical application, while others plunge into the marketplace and flounder until they find a job or career that can cover the bills.

I majored in early 20th century international politics and the rise of autocratic states.

It all makes more sense to me now.

In this economy? Don’t be ridiculous. The unemployment rate is so low ANYONE can get a job. The economy is so strong there are Far more open positions than there are people to fill them.

Actually, you can have intellectual interests such as this and have a blue collar job at the same time. In fact, I much preferred my life when this was the case, instead of the office centered career.

It would appear he is taking a realistic approach to a realistic future based on what he considers a bad decision.

With degrees like that you won’t even qualify for a job at Burger King.
