Don’t gag on it.

You know you’re successful when you start making comics about playing golf. Or possibly pickleball, these days.

You realize that sometimes an idea just doesn’t come to you when you need it.

I have a good sense of humor and I can come up with some very funny stuff. However, I cannot come up with it on a schedule.

Aside from the fact that I cannot draw, I would not make a good cartoonist. I cannot come up with a joke of the day.

I also do a lot of writing. I know what writer’s block is. Fortunately, it doesn’t hit me often and it usually doesn’t last a long time. For me, a good night’s sleep is usually the cure. Ironically, I get up at 3 AM and start writing.

So, I have some measure of sympathy when a cartoonist hits the wall every now and then.

You knew the job was dangerous when you took it.

Yes, it is.

I expect a lot of cartoon/comic artists feel that way some days. New ideas and concepts are not something one takes out of a box that’s setting on a shelf. Gotta admire everyone of them, agree with, laugh at, or not.
