My most reliable method is, WITHOUT taking a deep breath first, is to hold my breath as long as I can, and then hold it just a bit more. Hasn’t failed me yet and I’m still here.

We usedn to hyper ventilate. then plug your nose. and blow hard without letting the air out. Until you blacked-out. Thus no hiccup.

It’s at least 50 years since I last had hiccups, so I’ve forgotten what I did about them.

That’s the first time those pants have been hung up in fifteen years.

It’s really a gas bubble in your stomach. Get that gas out either by forcinga (deep) burp, or eating something, even just a couple bites of bread.

My doctor who’s also my friend told me to place a sheet of paper towel over the rim of a glass of water and drink through the paper towel. It worked within seconds and hasn’t failed to remedy the hiccups since. Years later I heard a young clerk at the mall with a terrible case of them and I told her about my doctor’s remedy. She looked at me like I was some crazy old man, but she tried it anyway and as we were leaving the store she ran up from the back to thank me. It seems she had been painfully hiccupping for almost an hour with no relief.

I hold my breath but I heard that a tablespoon of sugar is supposed to work too.

EnterNameHere is correct. Holding one’s breath stops hiccups. You may have to hold it through one hiccup.

Eat a spoonful of peanut butter or spoonful of sugar – works every time

One I remember from childhood was taking a drink of water while holding your hands over your ears.

I wonder if having someone pull your leg is a cure.

1/4 tsp of bicarb in a glass of water neutralizes the irritation.
