This week I’m in the middle of a crisis. The lead story on the real news is that there’s a thriving industry in fake news, the people making it don’t care what they’re doing, and the people reading it think it’s real.

Truth now days is no longer based on facts. It is based on if someone said it, it is true. So if Donald says he would of won the popular vote because millions of illegals voted, its true because many believe him. No facts to support it except a fake news site, but it is true.

I’m gonna stick with the Ark being an armed compound set up to provide a transitional dwelling space during sea rise at the time of the heaviest glacial recession, about seven to nine thousand years ago.

That would mean the Lord Utnapishtim and his servant, Noah, were early survivalists, preparing for the fall of civilization from global climate change.

Sure, I just make it all up, but it fits the data and the timeline.

Still drunk on the election results, the right continues to tear down facts, truth, and the meaning of words. Language, science, and education are disrespected. Eventually they will run smack into reality, and their hangover will begin. Interesting essay on Heinlein’s Crazy Years and semantic insanity. https://accordingtohoyt.com/2013/07/17/4357/

When Reagan was POTUS I re-read “1984” and was surprised the accuracy of what was happening to “media and truth”. It is time, well past time, for everyone to read that little bit by Eric Blair again. It’s also interesting to note that the author’s father worked for the British government, and his job was to increase opium production in Afghanistan, to enslave the people of China to BRITISH RULE.

The Internet and “social media” have nearly completed the job “Orwell” predicted. Trump’s “Ministry of Truth” has been in operation quite some time now, and has reached ultimate power. Time for a fall, PLEASE???

    Conservative pundit Jonah Goldberg:

When Trump says millions of people voted illegally, how should the news media go about taking that indefensible claim “seriously but not literally”? Should reporters assume that some number of people voted illegally, but not millions? Or that millions of people voted, but not illegally?

When Trump says he spoke on the telephone with the president of Taiwan, should China be expected to take what it sees as a grave violation of diplomatic norms “seriously but not literally”? What does that even mean?

Perhaps we shouldn’t take the literally-seriously distinction too literally. Perhaps what Trump supporters really mean is that he should get a free pass whenever his mouth gets him in trouble?

News reports are no more than the dissemination of intelligence – at it’s best, the dissemination of accurate intelligence.

    .

All intelligence gathering carries a bias. The facts are viewed though the filtered lenses of the intelligence gatherer. As those “facts” find their way through the distribution process, they are amended and adjusted to fit the facilitators and interpreted through the existing bias of the person eventually receiving the information.

    .

I learned this very early in life, when, as a soldier and intelligence gatherer, the information that I obtained, and “sent up the line”, eventually made its way to the public – 180 degrees distorted – from the facts that my team had originally submitted to the brass.

.One time, I actually had an Intelligence Officer call my squad and me, liars, because we weren’t reporting what the Powers That Be wanted to hear.

    .

People are like that. They shape the truth to what they want it to be, and accept only what they want to hear.

The people are the only censors of their governors: and even their errors will tend to keep these to the true principles of their institution. To punish these errors too severely would be to suppress the only safeguard of the public liberty. The way to prevent these irregular interpositions of the people is to give them full information of their affairs thro’ the channel of the public papers, & to contrive that those papers should penetrate the whole mass of the people. The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. But I should mean that every man should receive those papers & be capable of reading them. – Thomas Jefferson, letter to Edward Carrington, 1787

    .

What I find astonishing about the fake-news believers (keep in mind the son of one of the President’s proposed cabinet bosses was the source of the fake news that Hillary Clinton was running a child abuse facility secretly from a pizzeria), much to the financial damage of the actual owner of the shop (who was a Clinton supporter so the damage doesn’t matter in the opinion of the incoming government … opps, lost the flow of the sentence in the aside, but it was going to be that the same people who attack reporters and other media figures as liars are themselves the same people accepting the fake news as true. Because it doesn’t come from a mainstream media source I suppose.
