Our cat only feigns affection at a bit of a distance. Forget about laps or cuddles. But she does purr hopefully when we get blue cheese out of the fridge (no accounting for taste, right?). And she’ll sharpen your shins (by stropping) while you’re fixing a ham or turkey sandwich.

And by the way, polka dot pajamas would be an eye relieving change from my plaid pj’s paired with a totally different plaid robe. But Christmas gifts from loved ones are meant to be worn, just as much as the hugs.
Skip the hallucinogenics, the kitties that reign within my abode want only the best. Ido believe they check my receipt of same to verify the hefty prices.
My kitties have always been affectionate but on their own terms.
And once the petting begins, they get into a zone that increases affection. I can tell when the start making “kitty biscuits” aka kneading that I can get more nuzzle-y.
The most affectionate cat I have is now. I didn’t want him, he was the neighborhood tom cat who bullied my late kitty. But he wore me down, and likes to climb me like a tree and rest hia head on my left shoulder. All 18+ lbs of him supported by my left arm.butI’ve found if I embrace him when he wants affection, after a few minutes he’ll get down & sleep close by. If I try to push him off, he’ll sit on my keyboard or trip me when I walk.
He HAS learned that I sometimes need a minute to stop what I’m doing, though. So we’ve “trained” each other.

I had a cat who didn’t react to catnip for some reason.

The question is: Did we domesticate cats, or did they domesticate us?

The two cats who live in the same house as I do are just as sincere about affection as people are. Read that as you will.

But cats don’t feign affection. They give what they get.

Arlo & Janis have a Ludi cartoon today: Arlo shakes the treats bag to lure Ludi close enough to be grabbed and stuffed into the carrier.

That is why I’m not a fan of ‘political correctness’ – I’d much rather know who I’m dealing with.

Honest? Yes, cats always are.

I guess politicians are like cats. Only they feign concern for the masses for votes.

Oh, I think most cats get pretty affectionate around dinner time.

Dogs are genuinely thrilled to part of your family. Cats are willing to tolerate you as part of their world.

It’s food, not catnip. Catnip makes them drool and stare into space.

Wow! I thought this comic was about cat behavior! As on Luann. Not a bunch of political BS. Sheesh!

Cats can be genuinely affectionate. They’re just not fanatics about it.

I remember the same speech bubble and sign in a 1997 ‘Non Sequitur’. What does that say about my brain? :-)
