Woke means you do not waste your time being a total putz who gets offended by all sorts of trivial crap concerning other people leading their lives and not hurting anyone else and then has a DEFCON level 1 snowflake meltdown every time they find out that everyone else is not willing to be part of their putz cult
“Woke” is what lousy selfish people call people who actually care about something other than themselves. So they can pretend that selfishness is GOOD.
It’s also a term from black slang, so it’s perfect for firing up the racists into an outrage. Same reason they use “Critical Race Theory.” It has “Race” in the title, so it fires up the racists.
From what I read above it is clear the guy looking at his watch in the toon and uttering the words in the balloon has the correct response to the signage.
“Woke” is so vague, it perfectly represents a party without domestic, foreign or economic policies – and whose only policy is loudly “protecting” America from non-existent threats like drag queens, anyone trans, and Disney World.
After all the different and very tiresome explanations for the word woke, I getting tired waiting for the term that will replace it in a few days or weeks. Always happens.
The Late Show called on Rihanna and Drake to help feature DeSantis’s obsession with woke. https://www.tiktok.com/@colbertlateshow/video/7224307697917824302
It all depends on who you ask. For someone with a dictionary, and a brain, woke means to be aware. For a Repub candidate, it’s the worst thing to come along since Communism.
I am not concerned about what the word means today. We used the same word, in basically the same context, in the early 70s. It simply meant “aware” or “hip”. If people want to argue about it, go ahead. It’s your time, waste it as you wish…
Woke is just the right wing’s latest attempt (after SJW, Politically Correct and Bleeding Heart) to craft an insult out of their disgust that other people have empathy.
My take is that “woke” is nothing more or less than the old term “political correctness.” The term started out meaning adherence to a particular political line, but became generalized to adherence to some concept of progressive behaviour, sometimes ironically.
(I first ran into the term in Berkeley in the 1960s There’s an interesting history in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_correctness )
Like many concepts, PC can run in a spectrum, from sensible and sensitive to extreme and wacky:
—It’s reasonable to object to, say, misogynistic lyrics in rap music; claiming that Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony is a depiction of rape is, IMHO, crazy. ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susan_McClary )
—It’s reasonable to avoid and condemn using racial or ethnic slurs; it’s overreach to claim (as I once observed in a forum elsewhere) that the term “when I was a little nipper” is a slur against Americans of Japanese descent.
-It’s reasonable to advocate for gender equality. I thought it overzealous when a political constituency group I was part of was allocated eight delegates to the national convention, and three women and five men wanted to attend, but the group decided to send only six-three men and three women—in order that the delegation be “balanced” between males and females.
—It’s reasonable and necessary to deplore and fight against rape, but IMHO over the top to declare, along with Susan Brownmiller, that it’s “a conscious process of intimidation by which all men keep all women in a state of fear.”
These days if you’re not considered racist enough you get called “woke,” which is apparently supposed to be an insult — at least, the racists think it’s an insult. The rest of us, not so much.
What woke means? Idiots foisting their unwanted, unrealistic opinions and beliefs on those who don’t want them, including those subjects of their blinkered beliefs

The more I hear that word the more I am sure that it means people who do not live in a dream world of a history that never existed,
Now if you will excuse me it is time for me to go to sleep.

Woke means whatever the utterer needs it to mean to demean someone they’re too lazy to try to understand. Meaningless, in other words.

I’ve asked every one who has made the utterance, with no response. They used to call us N***** lovers here in the sunny south land.

From my reading of the Bible, to reject being “woke” is to reject living by any of the tenets of Christianity. Oops.
