In the 60s, Bob Hope was funny. In the 70s, he was not. I don’t know if it was me or him that changed.

I thought Red Skelton was funny when I was a child. I seen a special he did in the late 80’s, he just seemed….quaint

I bet Craig Ferguson would get a laugh at this.

Can’t remember when I ever thought Jay Leno was funny. Once in a while he’d have a good joke, but rarely funny. Also didn’t think he was much good as an interviewer—but he stayed on TV a long time anyway.

Yes. Unfortunately, as some people get older (not me yet, I hope) they just become fractious old f@rts – telling everyone how they should dress, live their lives and so on. Even directed at people who are their age .. go figure. Can be, as Lucy says, “kind of vicious”.

Humour is parochial, of its time and of its place. For the most part.

There are few examples of general humour that appeal to everyone and that are timeless.

But then what would I know, the Goons, and the Marx brothers still have me in stitches, as does John Clarke.

Getting old, Danae, means you begin to evaluate remembered events in a different light. Sometimes they are regrettable, sometimes there is anger at an outcome, sometimes one laughs ruefully at the time when one’s own egotism led to a whole different result.

Jay Leno is now famous? More like post-famous. Ah, the copyright date is 2012. That explains it.

Getting a tattoo is the way young people express their individuality: by being the same as all of their friends.

Jonathan Winters was a favorite of mine. He was great at improvising quick one liners. In one where he’s supposed to be a native American guide he walks up to a river, dips his hand in and tastes the water and says “Mmmm. Buffalo upstream.”

Moe, Larry and Curly were the best. I never got the appeal of Lucille Ball.

I remember when Saturday Night Live was sort of funny.

Strange. I don’t ever remember Jay Leno being funny.

I remember that comedy began to change with Don Rickles, who could only insult people. . .and Archie Bunker. . .whom I never found funny. . .I always found victor Borge and Liberace funny. . .

His George Appleby character foreshadowed Will Ferrel.

The DNC needs to put out some new buzzwords next week for the sheep. “weird” is being way over used now.

I saw Jay Leno last year, that was great! He is still funny!! Worth the time & money…

Late Night talk shows used to be enjoyable, but that was before today’s late night talk show hosts turned the shows into an opinion forum to push political propaganda and extremist views onto the public. The concept of Late Night comedy died when David Letterman retired.

I tell people I’m from the 20th Century and I’m just visiting. And not really impressed.

The little girl will eventually find that getting old causes a lot more than a weird sense of humor.

Jay Leno was mildly humorous, at best.

I remember Mort Sahl, Shelley Berman, and Lenny Bruce… now they were funny

Not even one mention of Carol Burnett or Mel Brooks? The last of their generation, now that we’ve lost Bob Newhart.

I remember the guy before Johnny Carson but forget his name.

I remember when getting a tattoo was a drunken right-of-passage for military service. In those days, gangs were smart enough to realize marking yourself for life was a bad thing when the cops come calling.

Jack Paar was highly influential.

Monty Payton and Mel Burns are still the two funniest things ever! Want to make things funny again, put a little T&A in the movies and make fun of it all.

To be fair, the censors leaned heavily on all media.

Milton Berle made Drag funny….back 1951! Of course it was against the law for a guy to dress as a girl unless he could show he was not gay. Made a movie with Marylin Monroe who later could not recall working with him.

NO mention of Benny Hilll????!!!!! May you be eternally slapped on your head, whether it is bald or not!

I used to watch Leno, Letterman, and especially Craig Ferguson. Now, I don’t watch any of them.

I never got Bob Hope. Personally didn’t think he was funny at all.
