Unfortunately, when I was young [way back in the dark ages of the 50’s], we also got bored. But then, we would go outside and wander over to the school playground [which wasn’t fenced in] to see if there was anyone to play tetherball or to the vacant lot where kids gathered to play ball and climb trees — we attached a rope to a high limb to swing down from. One summer we collected scrap boards and plywood from our garages and built a clubhouse, using a group of trees as the corner. We even painted it, using left-over paints. My sister and I were smart enough to wear shower caps, which helped when the paint on the roof dripped down onto the person painting the inside. Paint fight. We also would hike to the “leap,” a cliff on the edge of town and climb up and down looking for arrowheads. We did a lot of play acting — pirates, Indians, Tarzan, etc.
We did it all without any grown-ups involved. No one dropping us off or picking us up; no one stepping in to settle disputes or establish rules. We were free to walk or bike all over town and play with anyone who was around. When we left the house, we often didn’t know where we were going — and even if we did, that was only a starting point. The only rules were that we couldn’t hurt anyone or anything, couldn’t use anything or go anywhere without the owner’s permission; and we had to be home for supper.
I wish the kids of this generation could have that kind of freedom and independence.
You could “ride” door-to-door in your neighborhood and look for houses that need some yard work done. Elderly people often need a helping hand. And you will have adventures beyond your wildest dreams.
Old trick with a paper bag of horse poop on someone’s door step; set on fire for them to stomp out after doorbell is rung? ( It worked in ‘Overboard’ a few years ago with Louie’s assistance. )

If you know where you want to go, and what you want to do when you get there, is it an adventure?

There’s no other frustration to match that of a child who can’t think of something to do.

One can excuse a child for thinking this way. The trouble is that some adults think this way as well.

uncover a mundane-looking mystery and solve it Eg. missing items, damages that can’t be explained, mysterious odd book found. IDK
