There was a discussion about this on another strip just a few days ago, and I looked up the statistics. It’s a myth that half of all marriages end in divorce. The real number is closer to a third, 37.5% to be exact. The way grandma looks at it, that means that 62.5% of marriages last “til death do us part”.
Just becauze it doesn’t end in divorce doesn’t mean it’s happy and successful. This ignores the marriages that end up as two people hating each other and playing petty tricks on each other but never getting up the nerve to face the social stigma of divorce.
Funny… almost everybody I know has divorced at least once, my parents, grandparents, and a couple good friends of mine being the exceptions. OTOH I know quite a few people who never married but have been together for decades.

It takes two (whoevers) to make one marriage, but with one divorce you get two divorcees.

All wedding are tragedies; 100% of marriages end in either death or divorce.
Side note: Yes, I was taught how to spell that last word by the late, great Tammy Wynette.

The eternal question of optimism or pessimism. We always seem to do better when we are optimistic.

How many of the people commenting about death and divorce etc. would say that to a child? Because that is Mary’s target audience, not you.

Don’t marry somebody you think you can live with. Marry somebody you know you can’t live without.

A marriage can endure without the married being happy. Of course divorce does not carry the stigma it once did…
