Other realization that you are old: When kids born after you graduated can buy alcohol. When the cute cashier is young enough to be your kid. The first time you say, “You know, back in MY day…” without meaning it as a joke.
It’s amazing how your perspective of time changes when you age. When I was 20 I would have considered my preschool years a distant memory. By contrast Y2K seems fairly recent even though it was nearly 20 years ago.
There’s no love lost between the class of ’88 and myself. I had such a bad time in school social wise that I will die a happy bear if I never see any of them again.
As one ages, there comes the day when one realizes that the future is rapidly going away, and that by the most optimistic math 3/4 or more of one’s life is already over. Another rum and… Cheers!
I work at an animal rescue. Every day I realize how old I am when I tell people two of our cats are named Elvis and Priscilla Presley and I can tell by the look on the people’s faces that they have no idea who that is!! So pass the rum.
When the first Nirvana album came out, the Beatles were not as old as Nirvana is now. “Bleach” was released 30 years ago (1989). At the time it had only been 26 years since the Beatles debut.
One of my younger relatives just told me about a new thing called a faux or fake prom themed party where adults dress in horrific prom attire. So, we now know who buys most of the horrible prom clothes from thrift stores. I imagine some zombie run zombies take the rest of them.
I can remember very clearly during my Senior year in HS, how I was so stunned when I learned there were alumni there who were celebrating their 30 year reunion—that was 53 years ago!
Someone asked me not long ago if I still had a copy of my dissertation. I said that I did. They asked if they could read it, and I said sure, if you brought your wheelbarrow along; cuneiform on clay tablets takes up a lot of space and weighs a ton! 8>)
Hmm. Mumble. (carry the three)… My Junior-Senior prom was more than 50 years ago. I can barely remember my date’s first name (and her last name is lost to the mists of time). It was my mother’s idea that I should go… and the next year, as a Senior, I put my foot down and told her I’d do it if I wanted to (I did, but was far too shy). Sure am glad I eventually outgrew being a teen.
If that drives Cartoon-Boy to drink, he has a problem! Not just Rat, either. I was alive (albeit pretty new at that) during WW II, and skipped my prom. I limit my alcoholic intake.
kitty update: Midnight and smokey had a little hiss fest but no claws or teeth so thats a plus Liza is too lazy to even care she just slept through it LOL. Im hoping soon to have Midnight fully intergrated with the “pride” soon.
