Rat has a point. And he could not care less about comforting Neighbor Bob.

[long] Son of a gun sounds like a euphemism for SOB. Nope. Back in the days of wooden ships and iron men, it took a crew of seven men to man one gun. A ship might have up to 100 guns. With that many people on board it wasn’t too difficult to smuggle a few women on board to service the gun crews.

A ‘son of a gun’ meant a child born to one of the sea faring wenches and an unknown number of partners.

If it was directed at Rat, he would be merely stating a fact! :D

Bob is playing hide and seek with his esteem for rat.

Better to stick with the universal, “Boo Hoo!”

My dad used to say it to us all the time. My older brother used to resolve this quickly, he would call “MOM” whenever Dad said it, then add, “you know what he called YOU?”

In health care, “SOB” is an abbreviation for “shortness of breath”, but whenever I see it written in a chart, I can’t help but wonder if that’s how the triage nurse felt about the patient.
