In college I worked for the Math Department. Any classes that were held in the afternoon, the professors would show up with their neckties tucked between the buttons into their shirts. That’s how a college professor keeps from spilling lunch on his tie, and it’s also how a college professor forgets to take the tie back out after he’s done eating.
Earl and I agree on the socks but I do not tuck my shirts into my undershorts. The socks are generally all the same style so it is relatively easy to reach into the drawer when you first arise and bring out a matching pair.
I buy two bags of white socks and keep them loose in the drawer. I pull them out two at a time and when they start getting old and I find one with a hole in it I throw it away. After a while I get low on socks and throw them all out and buy two more bags.
Thinkin’ about socks takes up half of my day. My sock blog takes up the other half. But even I and Nelson know underwear outside the shirt is just wrong.
I sorta wondered if others adopted my methods. I buy a bag of all black socks and throw all of my old ones in the trash. No matching and sorting required. I do the same with a few white socks for summer.
Oh dear. This is my husband. He doesn’t do the underwear thing on purpose, but once in a while I have to point it out to him. The socks, on the other hand, are exactly his style. All the same, all purchased at the same time and discarded gradually as they wear out.
People used to wear their shirts tucked into their underwear but these days it seems fashionable to wear their trousers half way down their backsides with the same result.
It’s clear that Earl is not as brainy as he thinks he is. If he truly had the brainy look his pants would be up to his armpits and the cuffs of his pants would reveal his sock garters.
Hubby used to wear plain socks all the time – black, brown or navy. Now he enjoys “fancy” socks, which means sometimes I have to darn one when he wears a hole in it. You cannot find darning cotton any more. I use embroidery floss, and it works just fine.

The only way to get the socks the same is to buy them ALL at the same time. As for the underwear……oh well.

Somehow an old song from summer camp springs to mind:
Black socks, they never get dirty, the longer you wear them, the stiffer they get.
Sometimes I think about laundry, but something inside me says "Don’t send them yet.
Don’t send them yet!"

So that’s why I wear black socks. Now I know.

I have black socks too. I wear them for both work and at home. But at the moment I’m wearing animal print socks.
