Once when i was barefooted i drop around a pound and half of frozen ground beef on my toes. After i got thru cussing the last thing i wanted to do was put ice on them.
And why would someone be calling the doctor for advice over the phone when it is often next to impossible to even get an appointment within the next two to three months –much less expect to get advice??? [ sigh ]
Blocks of Ice helped me get through college. One block in the beer cooler would last all week – bagged ice only 2-3 days. It made a great little fridge for lunch meats, milk, cokes and ETC. I had to be a miser to survive – made grilled cheese sandwiches on an upside-down iron, and left cans of soup on the radiator for quick lunches between classes. Before somebody asks – I used aluminum foil over the upside down iron.
And why on earth would anyone buy a block of ice? Does anyone even sell ice by the blocks anymore? 70 years young, grew up in a small town in Northern Michigan, have not seen anyone selling ice by the block. Not even in any of the countries in Asia I visited or lived in. I get that it was a setup for the punchline, but boy howdy, what a stretch.
Well, Mr Crane, you certainly got a response today, between the ice block and the doctor on the phone. Neither struck me as unusual, because both exist in my circles. I really did appreciate the irony, of course. A friend twisted and banged her knee ice skating, and said the doctor actually chuckled when he told her to put ice on it. Thanks for the laugh today!

Nowadays why would someone be hauling a block of ice in their car? An ice chest, maybe. But a block of ice?

You’re all missing the big issue. Why, in 2020, would he be unloading a big block of ice from the car? Is he a secret Ice Sculptor?

Who buys big blocks of ice anymore? And for what? I mean, I know they did it in pioneer days, keeping the ice in a big ice house.

We can wedge you into the freezer for a few hours, Earl. That would take care of it.

Use your imagination, people. There are several scenarios where you will need a block of ice instead of worthless ice cubes.
